Ruby hated it, yet she loved... no... needed it. Nicotine, virtually everyone had told her it was a poison to man. Even her uncle Qrow told her it wasn't worth it while taking a drag out of a lit cigarette in his own mouth. Now she knew why even he, a habitual smoker, hated the very action. The irony that she now was a habitual smoker was that it was good to have something to lean on, and all of her instructors relied on the act to cope with life in this god forsaken world.
She didn't know how Weiss was coping with it all, but she hoped she didn't fall into the same addiction as she did. Neo was already a stone cold killer anyways so she was right at home. Although last thing on her bucket list was probably to violently murder the both of them when the chance was ripe. Ruby was pacing back and forth in the living room of the hideout with a lit cigarette in her mouth. The missions the whole group had gone on the previous day while short in nature was extremely stressful for everyone. Each one of the groups met resistance of some kind, hers, and Neo's saw the heaviest fighting.
At least the men let her and the other remnant natives rest for the day while they went out to meet the trader that sold food to collect the stuff they would be living off for the next 2 weeks or so. As much as she wanted to sleep, though, she couldn't, so she thought a cigarette would help her. Dark circles were around her silver eyes, and it was as if all the colour and cheerfulness in her were drained completely. To occupy her mind, she thought of home, how everybody was doing without her, Weiss, and Neo home right now.
That was Weiss entered the picture, well, more like entering the living room from the sleeping room. She was rubbing her eyes, clearing them of morning stars, and was still in her Flecktarn woodland camouflage tactical shirt and pants. Only the god of light knew where her old snow-white dress ended up.
"Weiss...hey..." she was embarrassed at her old friend seeing her smoke like that, so she tried to smile it off, giving a small wave and smile to her.
"You can't sleep too...?" She asks, seeing she was up too.
"Yeah... I just can't for some reason."
"What about her?" Ruby followed up her answer with a question of her own.
"She's asleep. I don't think she'll be bothering us for now..."
The pair of girls then sat down onto the couch, staring at the blank empty screen of the television. Both of them are thinking about a myriad of things, some of them even the same but are waiting for the other to speak up first.
"Should we watch something...? Maybe the stuff they have on earth is really different from remnant?" Weiss spoke up and suggested first, but all Ruby did was just shrugged while continuing to smoke still. The smoke was nearly intolerable for Weiss at this point. She felt as if she was near her own mother again. At least Ruby didn't fall into a horrible drinking habit yet like she did...regardless Weiss dropped down to the CDs placed in the white console to look for something suitable that they could watch. Ruby soon joined her, and the pair scoured for something to pass the time.
Anything that was Russian was instantly eliminated because they didn't even have the concept of different scripts in remnant for the last few hundred years so god of light help them if they were trying to understand a earth language that wasn't English as it was called here. Shows that were in the middle were also cut out like 'Doctor Who Season 9', 'Dexter Season 3', and whatever was 'Fast and Furious 9'. Stuff that was pretty outlandish was also looked over, so no 'Spaceballs'. Ruby joined her after taking another puff of her cigarette, not wanting to blow a face full of cancer, causing toxins into her friend's face.
"What about this...?" Weiss held up a CD case containing a movie named 'Forest Gump'.
"That works." Ruby said plainly and got back onto the seat as Weiss worked out how to use the television. Televisions were like these were nearly dead in remnant, having been replaced by hardlight dust ones, so it was hard for her to find out where the power button even was. Strange that it was when she found it the button was on the bottom right and not top right like it was in remnant. Pressing the button didn't turn it on, too, so that was just great.
