The parking lot of the pier was small looking to be able to fit no more than about a dozen cars at first glance. Only the side that was facing the ocean had the actual parking lots, while the rest of the paved space was for moving into the parking space. There was a plethora of random objects in the middle, 3 cuboid water containers, a medical gurney just sitting out in the middle like that, and concrete rectangular planters formed barriers separating the parking spaces plus the limits of where the parking lot was since majority of the pier had asphalt as the floor material.
Walking into the office building, Texas made sure to move slowly after noticing the floor was made out of wooden planks. Wood was notorious for amplifying the footsteps of certain shoes, relevant of which were boots. Their hard soles and heavy build made them produce a louder stepping noise than usual, and thus, Texas had to compensate for that. Ruby followed suit as Texas waved his left arm downwards at waist level to signal her to slow down without words.
The uncertainty was a threat in this situation. A person or a whole group of people could be camping the building in every corner, including the second floor, which had many potential cover spots that could transform the first floor's entrance into a lethal killzone. The place was a complete mess, filing cabinets had been moved from their original positions or knocked down, all looked to be ransacked with whatever of value stolen and whatever that wasn't of value strewn about creating piles of paperwork on the floor. Rubbish was in no short supply, too, on the floor, and graffiti lined every single wall Ruby could land her eyes on.
Towards the entrance, there was a dead body, but instead of just being left in the open like that, someone took the time to deliberately cover the dead body with a white cloth not too dissimilar to how police would cover up a crime scene involving a corpse. Some side rooms on the first room were also present ut wirh 1 look trhough the wide open doorways there was clearly nothing inside. Without talking, Texas moved towards the left staircase that led to the second floor, his being made to produce as little noise as possible. Acending the stairs, the room had no signs of life. There was, however, another dead man in the room whose head was completely blown off lying dead in the middle of the room.
The only other items of note in the room were more filing cabinets that look looted, a desk with a computer that hadn't been used for a long time judging by the dust built up on its surfaces, and a small black rectangular safe next to said desk that was closed shut. Texas went to check the other second floor room directly across from the current one they were in to check if there was another person. He was too quick for Ruby to follow, quickly clearing the arcond room and finding nothing. It was evident there was nobody else in this place, at least for now. Texas walked back to the room. Ruby was in quickly, now paying no mind how loud his footsteps were.
"Okay, look around for the case. I have a feeling this was the guy we were supposed to find." Texas says, stopping before the dead guy on the ground.
"How do you know...?"
"He's wearing a local smuggler uniform. Blue and black jacket, olive cargos with that giant white russian print, absurdly big backpack." As he mentioned each feature, he made sure to physically point them out. Upon reaching the backpack, he proceeded to untangle the body from the bag's straps. It was a hard feat, his arms were pretty weighty, and the bag had something heavy in it. It was almost as if the man had filled his bag with rocks.
"Ruby this guy is fucking muscular or fat or some shit. While I get this fucking bag off his ass check that safe for me will you?" He asked of her without even looking up.
"That safe...?" Ruby confirmed, pointing at the one next to the computer.
"Yeah, universal combination is 7129. If it doesn't work, then the lock is custom, or it's plain stuck. In that case, there's no harm in giving up." Moving to and crouching at the safe, Ruby took a look, trying to deduce how she was gonna punch the combination in. It was a rotary lock, unfortunately, a very outdated style that had given way to digital locks back home in Remnant. Although they were still common in Mistal and Vacuo since those kingdoms had a lower technology level than Vale and Atlas do.
