The morning sun poured through the large dining room windows, casting a warm glow over the Jeon family's breakfast table. Jungkook entered the room, his polished shoes clicking against the marble floor. He greeted everyone with a polite nod before taking his usual seat.

“Good morning,” he said, his tone neutral as he reached for his coffee.

“Good morning, dear,” Mrs. Jeon replied with a warm smile. Mr. Jeon gave a curt nod, and Soobin merely glanced up from his plate, murmured a half-hearted greeting, and returned to his food.

Jungkook took a sip of his coffee, savouring the bitterness as he mentally prepared himself for what he was about to say. Clearing his throat, he set the cup down, drawing everyone’s attention.

“Mom,” he began, his voice steady. “I’ve made a decision.”

Mrs. Jeon raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued, while Mr. Jeon’s expression remained unreadable. Soobin continued to eat, seemingly uninterested but still listening.

“I’m ready to marry Jeonghan.”

The statement hung in the air for a moment, the weight of his words sinking in. A silence settled over the room, broken only by the soft clink of cutlery against plates.

Then, Mrs. Jeon’s face lit up in pure joy. She stood abruptly, her chair scraping against the floor, and clapped her hands together like an excited child. “Oh, Jungkook! That’s wonderful news!” she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling.

Jungkook gave her a small, tight smile, his expression calm despite her enthusiasm.

Mr. Jeon, on the other hand, frowned slightly. He set his fork down and folded his hands on the table, his gaze fixed on his son. “Are you sure about this, Jungkook?” he asked, his tone firm but not unkind.

“Yes, I’m sure,” Jungkook replied with conviction. “I’ve thought it through.”

Mr. Jeon nodded slowly, though the disappointment in his eyes was unmistakable. “Very well. It’s your choice.”

Soobin finally looked up from his food, raising an eyebrow. “Well, that’s unexpected,” he muttered, though there was no malice in his tone.

Mrs. Jeon, too excited to notice her husband’s reaction or Soobin’s remark, was already making plans in her head. “I’ll call Minah immediately! We need to start preparations! Oh, Jungkook, you’ve made me so happy!”

Jungkook watched his mother’s animated excitement with a blank expression, his emotions buried beneath a mask of indifference. Internally, however, he couldn’t shake the strange, uneasy feeling growing in the pit of his stomach.

As breakfast continued, Jungkook barely touched his food, his thoughts drifting despite the lively chatter around him. For reasons he couldn’t quite understand, his mother’s happiness felt like a weight on his chest rather than the relief he had expected.

Jungkook, in the heat of the moment, took that decision, but after a few days, he realised that maybe he did something wrong. It's been a week, and this past week had been a whirlwind for Jungkook. His once serene mornings were now punctuated with his mother’s excited chatter about wedding preparations. The dining table, once a place of quiet meals and brief exchanges, was now cluttered with fabric swatches, invitation samples, and flower catalogues. Mrs. Jeon was practically glowing with joy, her energy boundless as she made calls and coordinated with planners.

Jungkook, however, felt suffocated.

Seated in his office late one evening, he leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples. The decision to agree to the marriage proposal had been impulsive, born out of frustration, and the need to prove a point. But now, with each passing day, he was realizing how deeply he might have erred.
