Taehyung’s and Jungkook's days began by delving into the whirlwind of events that had transpired over the past few weeks. Jungkook, sitting in his office with a rare moment of peace, found himself feeling thankful that his mother, Mrs. Jeon had miraculously refrained from bringing up the marriage topic again. The days were less suffocating without her constant insistence, and he could almost breathe freely. Almost. Though her silence gave him a much-needed reprieve, Jungkook knew it was only a matter of time before she broached the subject again.
On the other hand, Taehyung was living in a completely opposite reality. Sitting on his desk, he let out a frustrated groan as he tried to focus on the report in front of him, but his thoughts kept wandering to his mother, who was becoming the bane of his existence. He regretted ever mentioning Jeesung’s name to her. It had been a passing remark, an innocent comment about how Jeesung occasionally invited him out for coffee. But ever since then, Mrs. Kim had been relentless.
“Tell Jeesung to bring his parents over,” she’d said for the hundredth time that week. Taehyung had lost count of how many times he’d told her there was absolutely nothing between him and Jeesung. “He’s just being nice, Mom. It’s nothing more than that,” Taehyung had argued repeatedly, but Mrs. Kim was stubborn and had her own interpretation of events.
“Why would a CEO of such a big company waste his time on coffee with you if he wasn’t interested?” she’d retorted each time, leaving Taehyung with no answer to counter her persistence.
He sighed and leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling. He couldn’t understand why his mother was so insistent on this setup, and it frustrated him to no end. It wasn’t just about her obsession with showing up, Mrs. Jeon; it was also the fact that she genuinely believed Jeesung, with all his wealth and status, would be interested in someone like him.
“Why would he even consider dating me?” Taehyung muttered under his breath, voicing his thoughts aloud. He couldn’t help but feel a mix of annoyance and insecurity at the entire situation. He was just an employee in Jungkook’s company, while Jeesung was a powerful CEO. The thought seemed absurd to him, but his mother remained undeterred.
Mrs. Kim’s words rang in his ears once more: “If he wasn’t interested, he wouldn’t keep inviting you to coffee.” And while Taehyung hated to admit it, a small part of him wondered if there was any truth to her words. But he quickly dismissed the thought, unwilling to entertain any possibility of Jeesung’s interest in him.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Kim wasn’t one to back down. Once she had set her mind on something, there was no stopping her. She saw this as an opportunity to not only give her son a good match but also to silence Mrs. Jeon, whose snide remarks still echoed in her mind. She’d make sure her son found someone who was just as good—if not better—than Jungkook’s supposed new partner.
Taehyung, however, felt like he was being dragged into an unnecessary battle. The back-and-forth arguments between him and his mother were endless. They were both incredibly stubborn—an undeniable trait they shared as mother and son. But Mrs. Kim always had the upper hand; she was his mother, after all, and when she set her mind to something, there was no turning back.
Taehyung exhaled deeply, running a hand through his hair. “This is going to be the death of me,” he mumbled, pushing away from his desk. No matter how much he resisted, he knew one thing for certain: his mother wasn’t going to stop until she got her way.
Taehyung was leaning back in his chair, staring blankly at the documents on his desk. His thoughts were an endless loop of his mother’s relentless nagging and the absurdity of the situation she had created around Jeesung. He rubbed his temples in frustration, trying to shake off the mental fatigue, when his phone suddenly vibrated, snapping him out of his daze.
