Inside a cosy café, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries filled the air. A gentle hum of conversations blended with the clinking of cups and hurried footsteps of waiters moving between tables, serving orders to the customers who came and went.
At one of the corner tables, two men sat across from each other, their expressions serious yet tinged with a sense of familiarity—Mr. Kim and Mr. Jeon.
It had been a long time since they last met like this. Ever since the engagement between their sons, Taehyung and Jungkook, had broken off, the friendship between the two men had strained. The dispute caused by their wives had only widened the gap between them, making these meetings few and far between.
But now, things have changed.
Their sons had found their way back to each other. And so, they were here to discuss the next step.
Mr. Jeon took a sip of his coffee, setting the cup down with a knowing look. "I knew this would happen someday," he said, his voice carrying both amusement and inevitability.
Mr. Kim, who had been stirring his tea absentmindedly, let out a dry chuckle. "If they were going to end up like this, then why did they cause all that drama back then?" He shook his head, disappointment laced in his tone.
Mr. Jeon hummed in agreement, a small sigh escaping his lips. "They weren’t engaged out of their own will. That’s why they did what they did. You know how kids these days are—they don’t settle for something they don’t fully agree on."
Mr. Kim leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples as if recalling the mess from the past. "Yeah, you’re right. But because of their defiance, our relationship suffered too." His voice softened at the end, regret flickering in his eyes.
Mr. Jeon gave a small nod. "That’s in the past now. What’s important is what we do next, now that they claim to love each other." He tilted his head slightly, watching his old friend intently.
Mr. Kim let out a deep sigh, his fingers tapping against the table as he pondered over his words. Finally, he spoke, his tone resolute.
"Me and my wife have no problem with this. But as you said, Mrs. Jeon didn’t react well to the news. And there’s something I want to make clear."
Mr. Jeon listened attentively as Mr. Kim continued.
"My son is not a burden to me, and I will not marry him into a household where he isn’t accepted wholeheartedly."
There was a sharpness in his voice, a father’s unwavering love and protectiveness.
"I want Mrs. Jeon to accept Taehyung with all her heart—to let go of the bitterness she holds toward my family. Only then will I consider Jungkook for my son."
Mr. Jeon remained silent, sensing that Mr. Kim wasn’t finished.
And then, after a brief pause, Mr. Kim dropped the real ultimatum.
"And if she still acts the same way—if she refuses to accept my son—then I’m sorry, but no matter how much Taehyung and Jungkook love each other, I will not let my son marry into your family."
His words hung heavy in the air.
Mr. Jeon exhaled slowly, processing his friend’s firm stance. But instead of reacting negatively, he gave a small, reassuring smile.
"I understand your concern," he said, voice calm yet determined. "And you don’t have to worry."
Mr. Kim raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to elaborate.
