The morning sunlight streamed through the large windows of the Kim residence, casting a warm glow over the elegant dining room. Taehyung sat in his usual seat at the dining table, a plate of breakfast in front of him. However, his mind was clearly elsewhere. His fork lazily poked at his egg, but he made no effort to eat. His thoughts kept drifting back to the previous night—the incident with the thieves, Jungkook getting injured, the drive home, and the unexpected concern he had shown for Jungkook’s well-being.

A sudden voice broke through his daze, making him snap out of his thoughts.

"Why were you late last night?" Mrs. Kim’s voice carried a mix of curiosity and concern.

Taehyung blinked and looked up at his mother. He hesitated for a brief moment, debating whether to tell her the truth or make up a quick excuse. But after a short sigh, he decided to be honest. After all, it wasn’t like he had done anything wrong.

With a composed yet serious expression, he recounted the events of the night before. As he spoke, the atmosphere at the dining table gradually shifted. The initial casual morning chatter faded into complete silence as everyone listened intently.

When he finished, Mr. Kim, who had been listening quietly, finally spoke, his tone laced with concern.

"How is Jungkook now? Is the injury serious?"

Taehyung quickly reassured him. "It wasn’t too deep. The bullet only grazed his arm. He’s fine now."

Mr. Kim let out a relieved sigh, nodding. "That’s good to hear."

Mrs. Kim, who had remained silent throughout the conversation, suddenly spoke up.

"When you go to the office, ask about his well-being from my side."

Taehyung froze mid-motion, completely taken aback by his mother’s words. His eyes widened slightly as he stared at her, unable to hide his surprise. Just till yesterday, she had been adamant about keeping a distance from the Jeon family, even blaming them for the  conflicts. And now, she was asking about Jungkook’s health?

Seeing his shocked expression, Mrs. Kim sighed and continued, "I may not like the Jeons because of my differences with Jeeha, but that doesn’t mean I want anything bad to happen to them." Her voice was firm but sincere.

Taehyung, still processing her words, finally gave a small nod. "I will," he replied.

With that, the topic was settled, and breakfast resumed in a more subdued silence. The previous tension lingered faintly in the air, but no one brought it up again.

After finishing their meal, Taehyung and Yeonjun stood up, grabbing their bags. "I'm leaving," They both said in unison.

"Drive safely," Mr. Kim said, referring to Yeonjun, at which he nodded with a small "sure," while Mrs. Kim simply nodded in acknowledgement.

With that, the two brothers left the house—Yeonjun heading toward university on his bike whereas Taehyung chose to walk to his workplace, his mind still slightly preoccupied with last night’s events and the unexpected shift in his mother’s stance.

The morning air was crisp, carrying a faint chill that brushed against Taehyung’s skin as he took a slow, thoughtful walk before heading to the office. His steps were unhurried, his mind deep in contemplation. The events of the previous night replayed in his head—the argument, the danger, Jungkook getting hurt, and the unfamiliar worry that had gripped his heart. He wasn’t sure what unsettled him more: the fact that Jungkook had gotten injured protecting him or the strange relief he had felt when he saw him safe and sound at the hospital.
