The dorm was unusually quiet, save for the faint sound of Heeseung’s fingers tapping away at his laptop in the living room. He sat hunched over, his hair slightly disheveled and his brows furrowed in concentration. A deadline for an upcoming project loomed over him, and he’d been working on it all day, frustration bubbling under the surface as technical issues and his own perfectionism fought against him.

Sunoo, on the other hand, was in a completely different mood. He’d woken up feeling unusually giddy, the kind of mood where everything seemed brighter and more exciting. He practically skipped into the room, holding a small packet of snacks he’d just retrieved from the kitchen.

“Hyung!” Sunoo chirped, his voice light and full of energy. “Guess what? I found the cookies Jay hid in the pantry. You want one?”

Heeseung barely looked up, muttering a distracted, “Not now.”

Undeterred, Sunoo plopped onto the couch across from him, kicking his legs up. “You’ve been glued to that laptop all day. You’re going to turn into a robot if you don’t take a break.”

“Sunoo…” Heeseung warned, his tone sharp but still restrained.

“C’mon, just one cookie. It’ll help you think better. It’s scientifically proven or something!” Sunoo teased, leaning forward with a grin. He always liked poking fun at Heeseung’s serious side, knowing the older often softened under his playful charm.

But today wasn’t the day. Heeseung’s patience, worn thin by hours of work and stress, finally snapped.

“Sunoo, can you stop?!” Heeseung shouted, his voice ringing through the room. “I don’t have time for your jokes right now! Just leave me alone!”

The words hit like a slap. Sunoo froze, the smile slipping from his face as his giddiness evaporated in an instant. His hand, still holding the packet of cookies, fell to his lap.

“Oh…” Sunoo said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. His expression was unreadable, but the hurt in his eyes was unmistakable.

Heeseung blinked, his anger dissipating almost as quickly as it had flared up. He opened his mouth to say something, but Sunoo was already on his feet.

“Got it,” Sunoo mumbled, turning on his heel and walking away before Heeseung could stop him.

The sound of Sunoo’s door closing echoed down the hallway, and Heeseung groaned, running a hand through his hair. “Great. Nice job, genius,” he muttered to himself.

For the rest of the day, Sunoo avoided Heeseung completely. He didn’t linger in the living room, didn’t join the others for dinner, and barely spared Heeseung a glance when they crossed paths. His usual bright energy was replaced with a quiet, distant demeanor that made the dorm feel colder.

By the next morning, Heeseung couldn’t take it anymore. He hated the tension between them, hated the way Sunoo’s smile—something he secretly adored—had been replaced with silence.

Heeseung waited until the other members were distracted before cornering Sunoo in the kitchen. Sunoo was making himself a cup of tea, his movements slow and deliberate.

“Sunoo,” Heeseung started, his voice soft.

Sunoo didn’t look up. “What?”

“I… I wanted to apologize,” Heeseung said, stepping closer. “I didn’t mean to yell at you yesterday. I was stressed, but that’s no excuse for how I treated you.”

Sunoo shrugged, his expression unreadable. “It’s fine.”

“It’s not fine,” Heeseung insisted, his tone growing more desperate. “I hurt your feelings, and I hate that I did. Please, Sunoo, I’m really sorry.”

For a moment, Sunoo said nothing, focusing on stirring his tea. Then he sighed, finally meeting Heeseung’s gaze. “Do you even know why I was talking to you yesterday?”

Heeseung blinked, caught off guard. “Uh… to cheer me up?”

Sunoo nodded. “Exactly. I saw how stressed you were and wanted to make you smile. But instead, you yelled at me.”

The weight of Sunoo’s words hit Heeseung like a truck. He reached out, hesitating for a moment before gently taking Sunoo’s hand. “I know. I messed up, and I’m so, so sorry. I don’t deserve your kindness, but… can you forgive me?”

Sunoo studied him for a long moment, his expression softening. “You’re lucky I’m such a nice person,” he said with a small smile, though his tone carried a hint of teasing.

Heeseung’s face lit up, relief washing over him. “Does this mean we’re okay?”

“Almost,” Sunoo said, pulling his hand away and grabbing the packet of cookies he’d left on the counter. “You still owe me for ruining my good mood yesterday.”

Heeseung chuckled, the tension finally breaking. “Deal. I’ll buy you as many cookies as you want.”

Sunoo grinned, his bright energy returning. “Better start saving up, then.”

As Sunoo walked past him, he paused, looking over his shoulder. “Oh, and Heeseung? Next time, just talk to me if you’re stressed. I’m better at cheering people up than you think.”

Heeseung smiled, watching Sunoo disappear down the hallway. “I know,” he whispered to himself.

“I know,” he whispered to himself
