The group's dragons soared gracefully through the air, their wings cutting through the cool breeze. The sky above was mostly clear, but clusters of clouds drifted lazily around them, forming patches of white that obscured their view in places.
Suddenly, a shadow streaked past at a distance, cutting through the clouds like a bolt of black lightning. Hookfang roared in alarm, flaring his wings, while Barf and Belch wobbled precariously under the twins' startled movements.
"What was that?!" Snotlout shouted, his grip tightening on Hookfang's horns.
Astrid narrowed her eyes, her body instinctively leaning forward as she guided Stormfly. "It was fast."
Leo, steady on Stormfly behind her, tilted his head slightly, an almost knowing look crossing his face. "Too fast... unless you know what to look for," he muttered under his breath.
"What are you talking about?" Ruffnut asked, twisting in her seat on Barf's head.
Before anyone could respond, another shadow above them this time, slipping effortlessly through the gaps in the clouds. The sand-colored form seemed to materialize briefly before disappearing again, leaving a gust of wind in its wake.
"What the Thor's hammer was that?!" Tuffnut yelled.
Fishlegs clutched Meatlug's saddle tightly, his face pale. "That... that wasn't like any dragon in the Book."
"Are you saying we're being hunted by mystery creatures?" Snotlout exclaimed, his voice cracking slightly.
Leo didn't answer, exchanging a quick glance with Astrid instead. Her lips twitched into a faint smirk, though she kept her focus on the sky. "Not hunted," Astrid said, her tone measured. "I'd say we're being... watched."
"Watched? By who?" Ruffnut asked, intrigued.
Astrid shook her head lightly. "Not who—what. And I've got a pretty good guess."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Snotlout demanded, frustration and unease battling for control of his voice.
Before anyone could probe further, the black dragon appeared again, breaking through the clouds and hovering in full view. Its sleek, powerful body gleamed faintly in the sunlight, and its glowing green eyes scanned the group with an intelligence that sent shivers down their spines.
"HNGGHRRRAA....The Night Fury..." His voice trembled with a mix of awe and fear. "The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself..."
Before the group could fully process its appearance, the sand-colored dragon emerged beside it, steady and imposing. Both dragons hovered effortlessly, their riders finally coming into view.
"It's them," Fishlegs said in disbelief. "Hiccup and Y/n—they're riding those dragons?"
"I told you they're hiding secrets!" Tuffnut exclaimed.
Leo grinned. "Called it." Astrid rolled her eyes playfully. "You didn't call anything," she teased.
"Hey, guys," Hiccup called out. "Miss us?"
"When did you got that Night Fury," Snotlout burst. "You—you never told us!"
"I tried," Hiccup replied, a touch of amusement in his voice. "But, you know... people tend not to believe me when I say I shot down a dragon. But I eventually ended up befriending one." He patted Toothless's neck. "Meet Toothless."
Y/n spoke up, "And this is D/n. You might not have heard about Sand Wraiths but yeah they are rare around here and long story short- I ran into him by accident and became friends!" She rubbed the dragon's neck affectionately, and D/n rumbled softly, leaning into her touch.
