In the cove, Toothless was given a basket full of fish, which he ate quietly and contentedly while Y/n and Hiccup began assembling the harness on him taking advantage. As they set up, Y/n examined the harness with keen interest. Something that is too innovative to see in this era.
"You know, this new design is really something, Hiccup. The way you've balanced the weight distribution and accounted for Toothless's flight dynamics is impressive," she murmured, her fingers tracing the intricate details of the harness. "I'm amazed at how you've managed to integrate both mechanical and aerodynamic principles so seamlessly."
Hiccup's eyes widened slightly at her words. He had never heard anyone speak about his inventions with such understanding and appreciation. "You really think so?" he asked, his voice tinged with surprise.
Y/n nodded, her eyes sparkling with genuine admiration. "Absolutely. The way you've designed the harness to adjust the prosthetic fin tail mid-flight is genius. It shows a deep understanding of both mechanics and physics, especially for someone your age."
Hiccup felt a small blush creeping up his cheeks, both surprised and pleased by her words. "Thanks, Y/n. It means a lot to hear you say that," he admitted, his voice softening. "Most people don't really get what I'm trying to do."
Y/n smiled warmly at him, her hand resting on his arm for a brief moment. "Well, I do. And I think what you're doing is incredible. You're helping out Toothless to make him fly once again and also going to change the way we interact with dragons, Hiccup."
Hiccup's heart swelled with gratitude. Her words and understanding felt like a lifeline, affirming his passion and hard work. "I don't know what to say," he stammered, his cheeks still flushed. "You always seem to understand me and my work better than anyone else."
Y/n laughed softly, giving his arm a reassuring squeeze. "That's because I see how much you care about it. Your inventions aren't just about the mechanics; they're about your heart and soul, too. And that's what makes them special."
For a moment, they stood there in comfortable silence, the bond between them growing stronger. Hiccup felt a renewed sense of purpose, knowing he had someone who believed in him so deeply.
Once everything was in place, Hiccup directed Toothless to a direction. "Alright, bud, let's give this a try." They all went up to a nearby cliff where they felt a very strong wind blowing towards their direction, a perfect place to test Toothless's tail.
With a gentle nudge, Hiccup urged Toothless to take off. Despite being tied to the post, Toothless lifted into the air, his wings stationary. He looked like a giant kite tied to a tree stump, hovering a few feet above the ground.
Y/n watched nearby, her face lit up with happiness as she saw the harness working. "It's working!" she exclaimed, a mix of excitement and relief in her voice.
Hiccup smiled, feeling the improved control the harness provided. "Yeah, it is! This is incredible!"
Hiccup's eyes were glued to his cheat sheet, his leg deftly adjusting the fin tail. Y/n watched from a distance, savoring the refreshing breeze and observing their efforts with a sense of calm.
But then, a nagging thought tugged at her mind. "Was something supposed to happen?" she wondered, a vague unease settling in. Suddenly, the nagging thought crystallized into a sharp realization. Her voice broke the calm, "Hiccup, the rope is gonna—"
But before she could finish her warning, the rope snapped with a crack, sending the pair tumbling through the air and the pair went plummeting towards a tree. "...break," she completed her sentence, wincing at the scene.
