"I really did hit one," Hiccup says.
"Sure, Hiccup," Gobber replies.
"He never listens," Hiccup mutters.
"Well, it runs in the family," Gobber responds.
As they walked towards the door, Hiccup aired his grievances about his father's reactions. "And when he does, it's always with this... disappointed scowl. Like someone skimped on the meat in his sandwich," he complained, his voice tinged with frustration.
As they reached the doorway, with Y/n and Leo standing at a distance. In an exaggerated tone, Hiccup mimicked Stoick's voice. "Excuse me, barmaid. I'm afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra-large boy with beefy arms. Extra guts and glory on the side. This here. This is a talking fishbone," he mocked, his words dripping with sarcasm. Leo and Y/n exchanged glances as to what they just heard from him.
Gobber, ever the voice of wisdom, chimed in. "You're thinking about this all wrong. It's not so much what you look like. It's what's inside that he can't stand," he offered, trying to provide some comfort to Hiccup.
Hiccup sighed heavily, feeling the weight of his father's expectations bearing down on him. "Thank you for summing that up," he muttered, his tone tinged with resignation.
"Look, the point is, stop trying so hard to be something you're not," Gobber advised, his tone gentle yet firm.
Hiccup's shoulders slumped slightly, his desire to fit in evident in his tired expression. "I just want to be one of you guys," he admitted, his voice tinged with longing.
After Hiccup finished speaking, he glanced at Y/n, who looked downcast, her gaze fixed on the ground. Y/n lifted her gaze, and their eyes met. She offered him a reassuring smile, silently conveying her support. Hiccup attempted to return the smile, though it seemed strained, before turning and heading towards his house.
Gobber turned to see Y/n and Leo standing nearby, patting Y/n's shoulder in a comforting gesture before heading off to join Stoick.
Y/n turned to Leo with a playful smile. "You should probably go back to your home. It nearly caught on fire," she teased lightly, trying to lighten the mood. Leo chuckled and ruffled her hair in return. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Besides, you made me worried there. Be careful next time," he replied, bidding her goodbye before heading off. Y/n echoed his sentiments, though she remained rooted to the spot, lost in her thoughts.
Y/n's mind raced as she replayed the events of the previous night's dragon raid in her head. If she hadn't intervened and guided Hiccup to safety, the Monstrous Nightmare would have wreaked havoc, destroying buildings and plundering the village's precious resources.
A grin spread across her lips as she glanced towards Hiccup's house. "He must have reached the forest by now," she mused to herself, excitement bubbling within her. With eager anticipation, Y/n set out to find Hiccup.
---
The sun cast a warm glow over the landscape as a gentle breeze stirred the air. Passing through the dense woods, Y/n spotted Hiccup walking ahead, his frustration evident as he marked crosses in a small diary. "Ugh, the gods hate me," he grumbled. "Some people lose their knife or their mug. No, not me. I manage to lose an entire dragon!"
Y/n stifled a yawn, exhaustion weighing heavily on her after the previous night's ordeal. She watched from a distance as Hiccup WHACKS a low-hanging branch. It SNAPS back at him, hitting him in the face. Y/n winced in sympathy, feeling a pang of guilt for not being able to check on him. He looks up to see a snapped tree trunk. His eyes follow it to a long trench of up-turned earth.
