Kara and Lena had reached her car but stood outside, not moving. Kara could not bear to leave her on her own without knowing she was okay, safe, and on her way home.
Lena waited for Kara to walk away, she was longing for her leave so she could break down in peace and fall apart without being judged. She knew what she just did was one of the biggest things she'll ever do. It didn't seem like much but she has uprooted her whole life, destroyed a relationship with a good guy or so she thought, and made a lot more things feel possible.
She couldn't move, all she could was look at her.
"Kara Danvers, my hero," Is all she could choke out while her eyes filled with tears.
"I couldn't let him hurt you." She moved her hand to hold her cheek to comfort her, "Are you okay, truly. Are you okay?"
She didn't know how to answer that, but she took a minute to breathe and find herself.
After a beat, she answered as honestly as she could.
"I feel lighter, free. I am more myself than I have ever been. I have not been honest about who I love; I just existed, trying to get by and laying as low as I could with my family being known by the world." She began to cry, letting herself feel, finally. Kara immediately without thinking, pulled her into a hug, holding her tight, and showing her that she is not alone.
Kara let her breathe, let loose, and melt away.
Feeling Kara's embrace made her body go into equilibrium. Her racing heart calmed, feeling the warmth of Kara's body showed her how wonderful something could be. It showed her what home could feel like; she rested her head on Kara's shoulder. The moment her head found her shoulder, Kara released the breath she didn't know she was holding.
"Kara, I don't think I'm ever going to be okay. Why was he so angry at me for something I can't control?" She broke out in full sobs, upset at who Ryder is and why she did what she did. She pulled away from Kara's embrace slightly, "Will I ever be okay?"
"You will be, you are strong, stronger than me. When something knocks you down, you always get back up. You find solutions, you fix things, and you are the best person I have ever known. You can make it through anything, and I am right here with you. I will be here with you, forever." Kara spoke from the heart, the truest words she'll ever say.
"And always?" Lena wondered.
"Forever and always." Kara smiled resting her forehead on Lena's. "And listen, Ryder is a douchebag, the world is filled with people like him. Bigots and small minded people, sometimes people change and turn into someone who won't hate us for who we are. And sometimes they don't, all we can hope for is that he's the former but we are not responsible for him. He is his own person and can make his own choices, we can't worry about him."
Lena took a few minutes to process her words, understanding what they mean. Starting to believe them, and hoping he chooses the right path.
"You're right, Ryder will do whatever but one thing I'm glad about is that I have you." She smiled, gazing into her eyes.
"El Mayarah," Kara beamed, sharing her heritage.
"What?" The phrase confused her, "What did you say?"
"El Mayarah, it means stronger together. On Krypton, we have crests, it represents our house. The one my cousin wears is for The House of El, but it doesn't just mean our house. It also means El Mayarah, stronger together. Because Clark is who he is, he has made it something to look up to, something to believe in. The symbol says that we are stronger together, and we can do this. You and me, that's all that matters."
