The faint sound of birds chirping filtered through the curtains as sunlight streamed into the room. Danielle stirred under the covers, groaning softly as she shifted to bury her face deeper into the pillow.
"Good morning, birthday girl," Haerin's soft voice cooed, followed by the gentle brush of lips against Danielle's cheek.
Danielle let out a muffled noise, half-asleep. "Too early..." she mumbled, but she felt the corners of her mouth twitch into a sleepy smile.
"Come on baby," Haerin whispered, her lips now trailing to Danielle's ear. "It's your special day. Let me spoil you, hmm?"
Danielle cracked one eye open and turned her head slightly to look at Haerin. Her girlfriend's face was close, her dark eyes sparkling with adoration, her smile so tender that it made Danielle's chest tighten.
"You're lucky you're cute," Danielle muttered, her voice still thick with sleep.
Haerin chuckled softly and leaned in to kiss the tip of Danielle's nose. "I'll take that as a compliment."
Danielle finally sat up, her hair a wild mess, and blinked at Haerin. "What time is it?"
"Not too late," Haerin said, brushing a stray curl out of Danielle's face. "Just early enough to have the whole day to celebrate you." She cupped Danielle's cheek, her thumb tracing the soft curve of her jaw. "Happy birthday, my love."
Danielle felt her cheeks warm, her heart skipping at the sincerity in Haerin's voice. "Thanks," she said softly, leaning into Haerin's hand.
Haerin smiled and leaned forward, pressing a slow, lingering kiss to Danielle's lips. It wasn't rushed or teasing—just pure love poured into a single moment. When she pulled back, she rested her forehead against Danielle's.
"I don't think I'll ever stop being in awe of you," Haerin murmured, her voice low and filled with emotion. "Every single day, you find new ways to amaze me. The way you care, the way you love, the way you light up every room you walk into... You're everything Dani."
Danielle's eyes shimmered as she stared at Haerin, her chest swelling with emotion. "You're gonna make me cry," she whispered, her voice shaky.
"Then cry," Haerin said, her thumb brushing under Danielle's eye. "But know that you're the most incredible person I've ever known. And I'm so, so lucky to love you."
Danielle's lips trembled as she let out a soft laugh, leaning forward to kiss Haerin again, this time with more urgency. "You're such a sap," she murmured against Haerin's lips, her voice thick with affection.
"I love you," Haerin replied, a soft smile tugging at her lips.
Danielle kissed her again, pulling Haerin closer until they were tangled together under the covers. Haerin held her tightly, her hands rubbing soothing circles on Danielle's back as their kisses grew slower, softer.
After a few quiet moments, Haerin pulled back, resting her forehead against Danielle's again. "Okay, as much as I'd love to stay like this all day, we have plans."
"Plans?" Danielle asked, her brow arching in curiosity.
Haerin grinned and tapped Danielle's nose. "Get dressed, birthday girl. I'm taking you out for breakfast. And no, you don't get to argue."
Danielle huffed, though the smile on her face betrayed her attempt to act annoyed. "Fine, but only because I'm curious now."
"Good," Haerin said, pressing one last kiss to Danielle's lips before sliding out of bed. She walked to the closet and grabbed an outfit for herself, glancing over her shoulder with a playful smirk. "Hurry up, or I'll eat all the pancakes by myself."
