Weeks had passed since Hanni had embarked on her tour, plunging into the whirlwind of performances, soundchecks, and fan meetings. Meanwhile, Minji had gradually adjusted to the absence, filling her days with work, family, and those precious moments of connection with Hanni.
The time zones made communication a juggling act. Sometimes, Hanni's good morning was Minji's good night. Yet, even with their packed schedules, they managed to sneak in texts, voice notes, and late-night calls.
Hanni: What would you do if I forgot the lyrics of a song I wrote about you on stage?
Minji: I'd fly to your next city and remind you. Don't test me.
Hanni: Romantic AND threatening. Just my type.
Minji couldn't help but smile at her phone, rereading the messages long after they were sent. Hanni's humor and affection made her feel close, even when they were oceans apart.
It was one of those quiet evenings when Jennie let herself into Minji's apartment without so much as a knock.
"You need a lock code that's not your birthday," Jennie announced, carrying two bags of takeout and a bottle of wine.
"Or you could knock like a normal person," Minji retorted, though her tone lacked any real annoyance.
"Knocking is for strangers," Jennie said, setting the bags on the counter. "And last I checked, I'm your sister. I have full access."
Behind her, Hyein followed with an armful of snacks. "This is basically my second home, anyway."
Minji raised a brow, leaning against the counter. "You both are awfully comfortable for people who don't live here."
Jennie shot her a look. "Relax, we're here to keep you company. You've been sulking."
"I don't sulk."
"You've been sulking," Jennie insisted, handing Minji a set of chopsticks. "And it's cute how you think you're hiding it."
Hyein laughed, plopping down on the couch. "Yeah, you're like, 'Hanni's fine,' but then you stare at your phone like a lovesick puppy."
Minji flushed, but before she could retort, Jennie jumped in. "How is the girlfriend, by the way?"
"She's busy," Minji replied, trying for nonchalance. "Touring, performing, being her amazing self."
"She's busy?" Jennie mocked, smirking. "That's all you've got? You know you've been glowing just talking about her even when she's not here? Don't think we haven't noticed."
"Glowing is an understatement," Hyein teased, grabbing a chip from the bag she brought. "You're basically a human disco ball."
Minji groaned, pressing a hand to her face. "Why do I even talk to you two?"
"Because we're fun," Jennie quipped, stealing a sip of Minji's water. "And because we love meddling in your love life."
"Let's not forget the engagement rumors," Hyein added, snickering. "Still can't believe people really thought you and Yuna were about to tie the knot."
Minji rolled her eyes, though a small smile tugged at her lips. "Don't remind me. I'm this close to banning the word 'engagement.'"
Jennie grinned mischievously. "You know, you could just propose to Hanni and settle the speculation."
Minji's jaw dropped. "Are you serious right now?"
Hyein burst out laughing. "Yeah, because that won't make headlines or anything."
