The company was unusually calm that afternoon — the kind of calm that made Hanni pause at the entrance just to breathe it in. After weeks of airports, flashing cameras, screaming fans, and the chaos of announcing her engagement, she found the quiet almost suspicious.
She was there to talk to Jisoo — just a "quick" meeting. But as she walked down the hall, a familiar melody drifted from one of the studios. Curiosity pulled her toward the half-open door, and there she was — Dani, in her element.
Sitting at the desk with her sleeves rolled up and hair tied messily, Dani was bobbing her head slightly, headphones on one ear, tweaking a beat with laser focus. It was like nothing else in the world existed. Hanni leaned against the doorway, watching for a moment, smiling to herself.
"Didn't know you were living in this building now," Hanni teased.
Dani looked up with a start, then grinned wide. "Hanni! Mate, don't scare me like that!"
"You looked like a mad scientist. What are you building in here?"
"Dreams," Dani said proudly, taking off her headphones. "Helping one of the new girl groups. They're debuting in a few months. Super green, but honestly? Super talented. I think they might surprise people."
"That's cute," Hanni said, walking in and collapsing onto the couch like she belonged there. "You've become the cool sunbae who gives deep, life-changing advice."
Dani rolled her eyes. "Please. Last week I accidentally told a trainee to drink oat milk instead of sleep."
They both cracked up.
"So," Hanni asked, stretching out on the couch, "need any help?"
Dani turned in her chair, looking thoughtful. "Actually... yeah. I do."
Hanni perked up. "Seriously?"
Dani nodded with a smirk. "You're officially on duty. Maid of honor duties, that is."
Hanni blinked. "Wait what—now?"
"Yes now," Dani said, laughing. "Haerin's already making Pinterest boards, so you better catch up. I need you in the group chat before she picks lavender as our wedding theme."
"That's gonna cost you," Hanni said smugly. "My rates have gone up since I became the nation's little sister."
Dani slapped her gently with a stack of lyric sheets. "Oh, shut up. You're lucky I love you. And don't think I won't remember this sass when your wedding comes around."
Hanni giggled and held up her left hand with a little dramatic flourish. "Speaking of..."
Dani's eyes caught the shimmer of the Cartier ring. She reached for Hanni's hand and turned it slightly under the studio light. "Look at you. Taking that Cartier out for a walk."
"I don't have a reason to hide it anymore," Hanni said, a little breathless. "Ever since the engagement went public, I've just... I don't know. It feels..."
Dani's teasing faded into a soft smile. She squeezed Hanni's hand, then leaned back in her chair with a deep sigh. "You're happy."
"I'm so happy," Hanni whispered, eyes glistening.
A few seconds of silence settled in between them — not awkward, just full. Quiet with the weight of everything they'd been through together.
"I'm proud of you," Dani said finally, voice thick with emotion. "Like, really bloody proud."
"It's been weeks since she proposed," Hanni said with a small laugh, as if even saying it out loud made it more impossible. "And I still can't believe it."
