It was a shock
Not one of us believed that it was truly him, it has been much more than a year. We had all thought he was dead, well no but a tiny bit of us hoped that he was surviving where ever he was and for a very slim chance that he could have made his way back to the 21st century and yet here he is right in front of us.
Knelling beside him and shaking his shoulder lightly "Danny?" I asked, trying to wake him "Danny, can you hear me, it Acacia".
"Can't believe you shot him!" Connor said to Matt, who stood casually, leant against a stone pillar.
"Sorry, it was on the lowest setting" Matt apologised rather sarcastically.
Becker, who knelt on the other side of Danny, held his wrist checking for a pulse before throwing his arm on to this body "come on Quinn get up, stop faking it" .
"Becker" a muffled voice came from Danny "Becker?" Quinn locked up at me "wow, Becker, you're much cuter than I remember".
I let out a small laugh and embraced Danny, it was more than a relief to me to know that he was safe and alive and finally home, Becker clapped him on the back and once I pulled away Connor and Abby jump in.
"What was that?" Danny asked, holding his chest, his breathing heavier than usual.
It was Connor who answered "Matt shot you".
"Matt likes to shoot people" Becker added looking at Matt.
Matt raised his hand and wore a slightly apologetic look as Danny spoke "I'm guessing you're Matt then?" Matt nodded "I'm really back?"
Abby smiled "yes, you are".
"Look guy, Ethan could show up any minute" Matt stated, knowing full well there was little time for a reunion "Abby take Danny back to the ARC, Connor keep trying to lock that thing. Acacia, Becker come with me".
Danny, who remained seated on the floor, stared up at me in confusion "what's happening?"
"Oh, you know the normal dinosaur stuff and a sociopath on the lose but Abby will explain it on the way" I replied, helping him on his feet, noticing a large bone he grabbed as if it was a weapon.
Leaving Danny with Abby, Matt, Becker and I split up. I took outside, holding the small EMD with constantly aware that Ethan was in the building and could be anywhere and the idea of him frightened me. The idea that a man could be so silent, cleaver and is always one step ahead.
Walking down the steps taking in my surroundings, I glanced up at the tall prison, I had barely given it a look when we arrived, too preoccupied with my job. Now it seemed a hauntingly dark place, even in the light. The building tightly packed with only a small window, it was hard not to imagine the screams, the pain and the horror of this prison in its days and how cut off life would have been despite being in the middle of the city.
I spotted the car on the gravel and sped over, lowing my gun and where I was expecting to find the guard standing, I found him on the floor. Kneeling down beside the man, I rested my fingers on his neck; dead.
"Matt? Guard down" I said into my earpiece, a sickening feeling in my stomach "Ethan's here".
Running back into the main body of the building, meeting Matt and Becker "listen out" Matt tells us.
"For what?"
"Connor says we'll know it when we hear it" Matt replied "he's going to use the radio to transmit Ethan's location" a genius idea, I could imagine the pride on Connor's as he unveiled his plan to Matt.
