The gun in her hands suddenly felt heavier than it was and her arms began to hurt from holding it up for too long, but she refused to put the gun down or let her guard down, no matter how terrified she was at that moment and how badly she wanted to hide behind Zayden.
She kept her fearful eyes trained on the large man in front of them that looked right back at her with a sinister glint in his eyes, she continued listening to the audio with a rapid beating heart and weak knees that wanted to give out at any second.
"If I had to guess, I would say you're there with your police boyfriend and his FBI frenemy, am I right?" He chuckled, "of course I am."
"I wish he would fucking get to the point," Doug muttered, and the large man shrugged in response, his face moved and the corners of his eyes wrinkled as if he was smiling underneath the mask, he was clearly enjoying the situation a bit too much, and Doug had to fight the urge to put a bullet between those menacing eyes of his.
"Why are we even standing here wasting time listening to this? Let's take this guy in and get whatever we can out of him," Zayden said, sounding impatient and irritated.
The large man brought a finger to his clothed lips, then pointed to the phone, as if signalling him to listen.
Zayden's finger hovered over the trigger, but he decided to keep quiet and listen, a scowl on his face while his eyes remained on the large man, waiting for any wrong move from him so that he'd have a reason to shoot him down.
The audio continued.
"Well then," a clap, "I'm going to give you two more options miss Loriatte, you get to choose which one of your little buddies dies first!"
The large man in front of them let out a loud belly laugh as the trios eyes widened in slight panic when more large and heavily armed men suddenly appeared out of hiding, all of them dressed in all black with black masks covering their faces.
They surrounded the trio with their different types of guns, all ranging from big to small and pointed at the three, daring them to even attempt fighting back.
Where did they even come from?
They must have been ninjas or some sort of master hide and seek professionals or something, because Loriatte could've sworn that the house seemed completely empty when they walked in, at first glance at least.
With Loriatte's back still firmly pressed against his front, Zayden discreetly pulled out his phone between them and quickly sent the distress signal to the backup waiting around the corner, then pocketed his phone just as fast before wrapping a protective arm around Loriatte, who was shaking like leaf by then.
Loriatte counted about thirty men in her head, simply way more than two men could take on.
Her heart thundered in her chest as her whole life flashed before her eyes. There was still so much she wanted to do and see, she wanted to have a pet cat at least once in her life, see the Great Wall of China, tour the Eiffel Tower, and master how to do a backflip, she couldn't die yet, she was too young and pretty to die.
"See Miss Loriatte," the man's deep and frightening voice snapped her out of her thoughts, "I am a very fair man, you choose one of them to die now, and my men will let two of you walk out of here free, you don't? Both of them die and you'll carry three deaths on your head for the rest of your life- well, until I kill you at least."
"What the fuck?" Loriatte whispered, in disbelief of this guy and his stupid threats.
She was beginning to get more angry than scared at that point. Not only did he threaten her to get Zayden to drop the case or die, but now he thought he could scare her into picking which one of her 'friends' die?
