The door to Zayden's office swung open and Doug rushed in with a brown manila folder raised in one hand.
"We've got surveillance footage of Mrs. Mason in two different towns nearby," he announced, dramatically throwing the folder onto the table.
Zayden looked up from the computer screen in front of him where he was reading through the files Elias had sent to him, he raised an eyebrow.
"She's been to three separate banks, transferring the remaining money in her husband's account to an offshore account in small amounts. I contacted the banks and apparently she's a widow with her husband's death certificate and certified will where he left everything to her and she's just collecting little portions to help with her move to a different country."
"You'd think with the way she successfully kidnapped her husband, she'd be a lot more smarter. Surely she must know that we'd be able to track her down for logging into her husband's accounts," Zayden shook his head, flipping through the pictures of Mrs. Mason captured by surveillance street cameras.
"Or maybe it's a set up? She wants to send us on a wild goose chase," Doug said .
"Possibly," Zayden agreed with a nod, "according to the files sent by Elias, The Hossain's have been planning to expand out of the city, that's why they have been focusing on international deals, and searching for more income to fund the expansion- which would also make sense on why they would kidnap Shane Mason and drain him of all of his money. But now the question begs, is Mrs. Mason the leader of the Hossain's? Or is she just someone who has connections with the gang and saw the perfect opportunity to take everything from her husband without him fighting for it?"
Doug ran a hand through his hair, "whichever part she plays in this, she's going down with all of them."
Zayden nodded then grunted, "I don't know how, but we have to find Loriatte by the end of tomorrow, I can't go another full day without her."
Doug's lips twitched, "you're so in love it's crazy."
Zayden blinked, then cleared his throat. "I was also following up on the sudden deaths of all those criminals in the hospital..."
Doug rolled his eyes, noticing how he ignored what he just said.
"I questioned the hospital, and no one- to their knowledge and visiting records- came to visit any one of them, not even family. So I got some DNA samples from a few of them, hoping I'd at least get their identities and track down their families to see if they at least knew something about their lives of crime." Zayden paused and rubbed his face with both hands, stifling a tired yawn. "They've all been dead for at least over four years- on paper, so legally. No known family to track, or previous jobs, education, friends, nothing."
"So what? Being an unemployed, friendless orphan and faking your death is a requirement before joining this gang?" Doug scoffed, "fucking Hossain's."
"Hm, I was thinking..."
Doug looked at him, "that's rare, I'm scared."
Zayden rolled his eyes but continued, "why don't we blend in? Police work is getting boring, let's turn to a life of a crime."
Doug raised an eyebrow, "wow, youtq should think less."
Zayden ignored his words and smirked, a glint of determination shining in his jade eyes, "the Hossains have been operating in the shadows for so long that it's near impossible to catch them, we have been silently and patiently tracking them for about two years before your people took over, but now we're going to do this our way. No more waiting around for the perfect time, we're going in and destroying them from the inside."
