The car ride to the next location was silent and uncomfortable.

Zayden and Elias sat in the backseat of a black SUV, the two masked guards in the front, possibly driving them to their deaths.

Zenith was in Zayden's ear, reassuring him that they were tracking their every move.

Just because they were in, didn't at all mean they were out of danger.

"One of you smells very nice, what's that you got on?" The guard in the passenger's seat randomly asked, breaking the silence.

Elias looked over at Zayden with raised eyebrows, knowing they were talking about him.

"Uh," Zayden cleared his throat, "it's- it's a strawberry and vanilla spray- I think...I stole it from somewhere," not a complete lie.

"If you're still around by the end of this, write the name down for me, I kind of like it," this time, it was the one driving who spoke.

"Sure...?" Zayden looked over at Elias who shrugged.

The bad guys liked smelling good too.

"I hope you know what you're doing, Harrison," Elias whispered to him, low enough so that the two in front wouldn't hear him, "this was your reckless idea after all."

"Nobody asked you to tag along, Whittaker," Zayden bit back in a whisper, keeping his gaze on the outside world through the window, mostly taking a mental note of the route they were taking.

The hum of the engine softened as the black van pulled to a stop in front of a nondescript warehouse.

The tall, rusted doors loomed ahead like the entrance to a crypt, its windows too tinted to reveal any hint of activity inside.

The detective leaned back in his seat and looked over at his temporary partner, who smirked at him in a "this is it" way.

Of course his nerves were all over the place at that moment, but the years of experience he had under his belt taught him to mask it well.

Neither of them spoke as they exited the van, they both knew the stakes, and the weight of the mission hung heavily in the air.

They were risking their lives by involving themselves with the most feared crime syndicate in the city, even breathing the wrong way could jeopardise everything for them.

The two guards led the way towards the door after once again instructing them to keep their hands visible at all times. The door creaked open as they approached, and four masked men stepped out.

"They're here for Devereux," the guard who drove them informed the masked men.

"Ooh, Frenchie, nice," Elias nodded and every one gave him weird looks, including Zayden.

Elias try to keep your mouth shut challenge: Impossible.

"We'll take them in," one of the masked men nodded to the two guards.

"Good luck, and welcome to the family," the two guards said in perfect unison like some rehearsed cult chant, then they walked back towards the van, leaving them at the door of a strange warehouse with the masked men who looked like they were ready to shoot a rabbit if it hopped in a way that looked suspicious.

"Follow us," one of them commanded, and so they did.

The warehouse was dimly lit, the air thick with the scent of oil and metal.
