🕵🏿♀️
Loriatte hesitated.
"That-that's not true, he has his mind set on solving this case, he wouldn't just give that up because I asked him to," even to her own ears it sounded like she was trying to convince herself.
I mean she didn't even get along well with the man, why on earth would he give up a case he's been dedicated to since she met him, for her? Not to mention that if she somehow managed to convince him to do so, she would be practically signing Shane's life away and whatever ends up happening to him will not only weigh heavily on her, but him as well. They would both be just as guilty as the criminals Zayden locks up.
And for what? For her to go back to a 9 to 5? To go back to wasting away on her couch during the weekends because she had no life?
Whether or not she hated to admit it, the truth was that she had no life then and she sure as hell wouldn't have one to get back to, not even getting a new job or making friends will ever give her that feeling of normalcy.
She was a girl with nothing to lose, so why not at least be on the right side of the story?
"I have a feeling that you're stalling," the man pointed out her obvious hesitance, "but it's no trouble, you have until tomorrow to make your decision. We're going to play this very fair, I'll send you a location and a time, if you're there at the allocated time, I'll take that as you signing your own death certificate, if you're not, then you're a free and safe woman miss Loriatte, the choice is yours."
Loriatte gritted her teeth at the audacity of the man. That low-key was a threat, right?
He basically told her to either get Zayden to drop the case or she'd be targeted until they killed her.
What was up with all these men thinking they could force or control her into doing things she didn't want to do?
First with Zayden trying so hard to put a leash on her, and now with this strange man thinking he could just threaten her into doing what he wanted.
She felt boxed in and she was so damn over it.
"Choose wisely."
"Listen, I-" but before she could start telling him exactly where to shove it, he hung up on her.
Loriatte's jaw fell to the floor as she let out an offended gasp, removing the phone from her ear and looking at the glitching screen as if it would give her an answer.
The asshole!
"Siri, call Zenny!" She was back to pacing again as she brought the phone back to her ear.
"Calling Zenny."
"Loriatte? Are you okay? Where's Zayd-"
"Can you believe the audacity of that pompous egotistical fool!? If my screen wasn't so fucked up and I could hang up on his ass, I would've! I mean, who on earth does he even think he is!? Talking about some-"
"Loriatte, why don't you calm down and slowly walk me through what happened, hm? Did you argue with Zayden again?"
"No, yes- but this is not about that! I-" she took a deep breath to calm herself, "I got a call from who I believe is behind Shane's kidnapping and he practically just threatened me!"
"What? Are you sure? Okay...okay calm down Loriatte, and just tell me what he wanted." There was the sound of papers shuffling in the background and a sound of the click of a pen telling her that he was going to note everything she said down.
