Classification: Scrapped Storyline/Blooper
Explanation: I think this was supposed to be set in between Civil War and Infinity War. It was before I had figured out the timeline for how I wanted the story and their relationship to go. So, Steve is on the run from the government like he is after Civil War. But because Fury helped them start a family off record, like he did with Clint and his family, Steve drops by occasionally to check in.
"Daddy!" Yelled Ellie after a loud knock echoed from the door.
Steve had been gone for weeks so I crossed my fingers for him to be on the other side of the dark wooden door. Ellie couldn't quite reach the lock that would allow her to reveal who was on the other side, so I lifted her and her small hands excitedly turned the silver deadbolt.
The door hadn't even opened halfway when strong arms hoisted Ellie from mine making her squeal with joy. It was Steve, only Steve could make her light up like that. She was a true daddy's girl. He spun her around then lifted her blowing her little belly causing the cutest laugh to escape her bright smile.
"Hey princess," he set her down brushing her blond curls out of her ocean blue eyes.
"I missed you so much daddy," she wrapped her tiny arms tightly around Steve's neck, his face told me it was a bit too tight, but he smiled anyway.
"I missed you too little firecracker," he planted a kiss on her head before turning and swiftly pulling me into a hug that was past due. He spun me around in the same fashion he did Ellie, careful not to wipe her out with my feet, and I couldn't help but laugh into his shoulder. Finally, he stood me upright and pulled me into the kiss I had been longing for.
"I missed you," I whispered breathlessly when he pulled away. His eyes softened and a playful smirk pulled at his lips.
"I think I missed you more," Steve looked down to Ellie for her opinion, "Elle, who missed who more? Mommy or Daddy?" She looked up resting her hand on her chin to aid her thinking process, too cute.
"Mommy missed you more Daddy," I was shocked, Steve is usually always her first choice. I turned to see Steve had the same surprised look on his face.
"Why not Daddy?" I questioned my 5-year-olds reasoning.
"Because we got to get ice cream after Daddy left because you were sad and you cried," this little girl was too observant. Steve looked over to me with guilt polluting his perfect blue eyes. "Ice cream doesn't make me cry."
"(Y/n)," he whispered saddened by our little girl's words. Ellie, however, was unfazed by the mood shift and grabbed Steve's hand trying to pull him to her room.
"C'mon Daddy, let's go play dolls," though she tried, her small body could not pull Steve from his place.
"What a great idea Elle," I chimed unable to withstand Steve's gaze any longer. With that, Steve followed her lead and seamlessly turned into the joyful man who had walked through the door a minute ago.
While the two of them played I got Steve's bag from the porch and took it to our room to unpack.
As I sorted through his clothes, I thought of simpler times before the whole accords fiasco. The time where I just left the avengers because I found out I was pregnant and I was not going to risk that for anything. When Nick Fury helped us get a home that was so off record not even Tony could find it. I longed for those times but I also couldn't think about leaving these.
"Can we talk?" The sound of Steve's voice yanked me from my thoughts as I put the worn duffle bag into the closet. I met his stare with a smile that didn't quite make it to my eyes.
"Yeah," I sighed sitting on our made bed patting on the space next to me for him to sit as he closed the door quietly.
"Why'd you cry after I left. I mean I know you miss me and don't know when I might come home but usually you never get emotional," he sat down making the bed dip. Oh if he only knew how I cried myself to sleep when a rough day could have been made easy by his presence.
"It finally hit me I guess," I looked down at my hands and took a deep breath in, "It's just so much harder when you're gone and sometimes we just need to cry and get ice cream cones." He let out a short breath that I assumed was a laugh.
"But is this too much for you, being all alone?" He questioned leaning to the side on his arm, "I never meant for it to be this way." The way he blamed himself killed me because it wasn't all his fault.
"I'm not alone. I have Elle," I smiled at him trying to tell him not to worry. "Though Ellie has days where she wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, most days she is the sweetest little girl who is so content with what she has, and she loves that her daddy is away to help people. She's the best little helper I could ask for," Steve's hand caressed my cheek when Ellie busted through the door screaming.
"Daddy! Daddy!" She cried as she jumped into his lap.
"What! What is it?" Steve was startled because he didn't often see her like this, but I knew exactly what was wrong.
"Did you find a spider?" I tickled her arm making her squirm.
"Yes! It's so big Mommy I don't think even you can squish it," if it was like what she described I didn't want to see it, but I followed Steve to decide for myself.
It. Was. Huge!
"Yeah, we're gonna leave that one to Dad," I almost screamed myself.
"Wait (y/n)," he picked it up with a napkin and turned it toward me getting closer and closer. "It's not so bad," if he starts chasing me this man does not know what is coming to him.
"Don't you dare!" I screamed running through the house and out onto the front porch, "Steven Grant Rogers! If you don't stop!" I put my foot down.
"What are you gonna do? I have the spider," he snickered at my discussed shiver.
"If come any closer with that thing I-I'll... you'll have to sleep the couch, Rogers," that got his attention. He threw the creepy-crawly into the nearby grass. "You can be such a jerk when you want to be," I scoffed stomping back into the house.
"But you love me," he ran to catch up to me grabbing my hand and pulling me into a kiss. But I was still mad so I did not return it. "Come on you can't be that mad. That thing was tiny, (y/n) you used to kick hydra ass for a living, what is a tiny spider gonna do?" I gave in and pressed my lips to his.
"What's an ass, Daddy?" We broke into laughter mid-kiss when Ellie popped the question.
"Yeah, Steve? What is an ass?" I scrunched my eyebrows and crossed my arms in question.
"Well-"
