Recap:
Runt gives the messenger a bow. He is about to shoot me when-
"Stop!"
The cry comes from my mate behind me. Because we are mates, his body reacted to the danger it senses I am in, thereby waking him up early. I turn to him, disappointed. "I can handle your males."
"Y-you can what now?" the messenger sputters. "How dare you tell the Alpha that-"
"I beat him easily, and an Alpha's supposed to be the best, no?"
"A-Alpha? Why aren't you punishing her?"
"She's my mate," he explains flatly. I utter a short bark of laughter. "Mate? I don't want a mate!"
"So you've made clear."
"I'm sorry, Alpha. You deserve better," sneers the messenger. He's three meters away and I walk towards him. Uncertainly he bring the bow up, and I reach over and break it. "Don't give me any sh*t. You hear?"
"Y-Yes, Luna," he stammers, weapon less. I growl and grab his collar. "I'm not your Luna! I am the Alpha of my own pack!"
"The tradition is that you come to my pack and become Luna," answers my mate, standing with difficulty. I spin around and glare at him.
"And I suppose you think I care?"
"Why wouldn't you?"
"Tradition beats down females until they cower at anything and submit to any male."
"As it should."
"F*uck you."
"Thank you."
"Seriously, if you want to be together so bad, come to my pack and be my Luna."
"A Luna should be a female."
"I really think I made it clear, I don't care."
"Now, dear, that wouldn't be great for my reputation," he says softly. I throw my hands up in frustration. I've had it with this guy! One: he's so stereotypical. Two: he's really bad at flirting. Three: I can take him out with both hands tied behind my back! Four: I DON'T WANT A STUPID MATE!
Nada. Hell no. Never.
"What about my reputation?" I ask, gritting my teeth. He snickers. "Alpha males don't care about a pack like yours. They look to mine. The strong kinds-"
His face goes red after realizing that his pack had lost pretty badly to mine.
Serves the b*stard right.
Why am I cursing so much?
Because you love my choice of a mate?
Because I want you to shut- wait you can choose our mate?!!!!
Duh.
Then take back your choice!
Oops. Sorry, dear. Once chosen, never reversed. His wolf and I made a pact already.
Okay, I'm mad at you so be quiet.
Fine, b*tch. Don't come running to me.
I-
"Are you going to answer?"
I glare at my mate. "How many pack members do you have?"
"A thousand," he sneers.
I. Am. Done.
"Have you done any research on my pack?" I hiss. For a mate, he is really not my type. "No, but all I needed to know is that you're almost all girls," he answers. I poke his chest, and my next words soil out, harsh. "I have five thousand girl members not including children or guys. And I would reject you except I feel sorry for your pathetic pack. But don't worry, I feel no connection anyway."
He stumbles back, his face white as though I'd punch him in the gut.
(Believe me, I'd punch him there as readily as the next woman)
"Y-You can't do that," he sputters. "Either reject me or accept me!"
I shrug. He's just made my choice. "I don't accept you so I guess there's only one other choice?"
"No-"
"I," I say, drawing my words out slowly and carefully. "Reject."
Sh*t!
There's a burning pain in my leg as I try to gasp out the last word. The runt shot me. From wherever he gets his bows from. But seriously. The Alpha is brought down by a f*cking runt. A hand clamps over my mouth and through my haze of agony, I scream in my mind, They shot me! Defense!
We're coming, Alpha!
Secure the peri-
Before I can do anything, the arrow is drawn out and I feel another pain in my neck.
Great.
The day draws to a close for me as the darkness presses in early.
