Lauren's P.O.V.
"How could you!?" I shouted at my brother.
"I had to, because he doesn't deserve you."
"But why couldn't you-"
"I wouldn't have done it if I knew he couldn't hurt you again. I know he will, and I won't be there to protect my little sister."
-----
We were back in our old crammed house after our short visit at dad's. I'll miss the short time spent in the L.A. house, I'll miss my brothers more than ever though. But I'm really glad that we get to go home because I'm missing Rachel and Jaimee too much.
I grabbed my penny board and snapback before leaving the house. Mom said I could visit Rachel, after I deliver some pies our neighbors ordered.
I knocked on several doors and handed their orders. They gave me their payment - that I'll give mom later.
I started skating down the street until I arrived at Rachel's place. The walk would probably be roughly 15 minutes, but on my penny board it'll be just 5 minutes.
Rachel lived in a much better house and neighborhood that me, which doesn't shock me at all. Her mom's pretty chill and loaded so it's hardly any trouble.
I stood outside her house before ringing the doorbell.
The door opened and I'm surprised to see Chase, Rachel's little brother.
"Uh is-"
"Rachel! Your friend is here!" He started shouting. He literally cut me off but it''s fine, he is a kid after all.
Chase let me inside so I just waited for Rachel in their living room. It was pretty modern in this house, that's why I always felt uncomfortable in it. Not that I mind this fancy place, it just doesn't feel like home at all.
"Hey Lauren," Rachel greeted, sitting beside me on their couch.
"Hi," I said.
I liked looking around this house because it was always bigger and more roomy than mine. More rooms, more space and more modern stuff. I wish I could live here, or somewhere relatively bigger.
"How was L.A.?" She asked. I followed her to the kitchen and watched her grab a Pepsi for the both of us.
"It was a mix of happy and painful," I sigh. I opened my can and took a long sip.
"Why? What happened?"
"My over protective brother happened," I said pausing for a second. Maybe I could tell her, but she might pity me and stuff. "He ruined my summer," I simply added before dowing the rest of my Pepsi.
I noticed that she opened her mouth, about to say or ask something but she didn't. Good because I didn't need more questions to jumble my thoughts.
Lately I haven't gotten much rest because of the voices in my head. It was horrible, like every single move I would hear something that'll make my mood even worse. I have never told anyone about it since it might lead them on that I'm insane. They might even force me to see another therapist, which I never have enjoyed. I'm not crazy, just confused.
The whole time I was at Rachel's, I was either quiet or introducing her to the new band I've grown to listen to. She didn't like them as much, but she listened to their songs.
"Uh...Lauren, can I tell you something?" Rachel asked shyly.
"Yeah, sure go on," I say letitng her continue.
