Chapter 167: The Ghost Spider

[3rd POV]

While Gwen was on Mars assimilating her new power, the world as a whole were still reeling from the invasion, from the appearance of the X-Men at the scene, saving thousands of lives within minutes of being there. But more than anything, they were talking about the lack of response by the Government, and the Avengers, who had only arrived AFTER the invasion had ended.

Earlier in the day At BBC, the man and woman who were previously debating on the X-Men and their appearance, were now being far more...quiet. The man couldn't say anything against the X-Men, after watching videos of them saving people, helping repair some of the more important buildings (in the case of Jean who can do such a thing) and just overall being what they should be seen as...heroes.

"It looks like the supposed untrustworthy mutants have just saved the entirety of New York with their actions, while the Avengers, the ones that were supposed to keep us safe, had only appeared 5 minutes after the battle had ended" The woman said, amusement in her eyes as the man's jaw clenched in annoyance, understanding that she was right, the Avengers hadn't appeared, and were now officially being called into question all around the world. 

Although it was mostly because of the World Council that had ordered them not to go, and had even tried to stop them from arriving in New York, they had still taken far longer than they reasonably should have, and that was pissing a lot of people off. There were calls for dismantling the team, calls for lawsuits, and all sorts of reactions that people were having.

"And as I said before, the mutants are only doing this for the positive attention they will receive" The man said with a scoff, still not believing they did this out of the kindness of their hearts.

"So? They still saved people's lives, thousands of people. While the Avengers were nowhere to be seen, only showing up 5 minutes later. If they had been there sooner, maybe the invasion would have ended sooner, and thousands more lives would have been saved. The death count has already been estimated to be over 5,000, with experts believing it to be closer to 10,000. The greatest attack on U.S soil since 9/11" The woman replied with an eye roll.

"Of course it matters! You don't want to get saved by someone you don't trust! Who knows what kinds of outlandish demands they'll make now that they have saved those people!" The man exclaimed, as the woman stared at him.

"If you were there, about to die by one of those aliens, would you care at that moment? Would you care that someone who supposedly has intentions to demand compensation from the Government, saved your life? I don't think so, if anything, they deserve it! They deserve a damned metal at least!" The woman replied, scoffing at the man's evident ignorance.

"And what of that woman? Everyone has seen the video, watched as she effortlessly dispatched two large aliens that destroyed parts of Avengers tower with a single blow, and even the madman that had done all of this" The man added.

The video in question was a short video that had shown Gwen defeating Corvus, Proxima, and Loki, but not what came after, meaning no one knew what happened to Proxima and Corvus, only that they disappeared after Gwen defeated them, and it was the same for the scepter that Loki wielded.

SHIELD would likely cause a fuss over that one.

"She's a hero for defeating the psychopath that had caused that invasion in the first place. Plain and simple. Now, let's move onto something equally as important, which is the economic effects of this invasion" The woman began.
