Bryson POV
I was desperatly searching my kitchen for Oreos. Kayla had come in earlier complaining about the cream inside of them, and then she switched to talking about the cookie. She wasn't making any sense to me, so I did the only thing I could think of, I started looking for the damn cookie.
"Kayla, will you please relax," I asked for the fifth time.
I was moments away from telling her she was acting crazy and getting myself kicked, again. My mate was really losing it.
I growled out in frustration after I had gone through every cupoard and came up empty handed. I turned to find Kayla sitting on top of the island counter, I walked over and placed myself between her legs.
"I'll buy you some cookies after you meet everyone," I said, "Just come with me to the pack house and then you can have whatever cookies you want."
"I don't want any damn cookies!" She yelled, "Ok, I do want cookies, but that's not what this is about."
"Then what is this about?" I sighed and took a step back.
"What if they don't like me?" She asked quietly, "What if I make bad decisions?"
"Wait, what does that have to do with cookies?"
"What is it with you and cookies? Will you get over the cookies?"
"This whole thing started because you were mumbling about cookies!" I half yelled in exasperation.
Kayla hopped down from the counter and stood in front of me with her lips pursed together and arms crossed over her chest, her foot impatiently tapping the floor.
I took a deep breath and ran my hand through my hair.
"Ok," I breathed out, "They will like you, because you're amazing. You don't have to worry about making bad decisions, because we will make them together." I leaned in and kissed her cheek.
I watched as her stance relaxed, she took a deep breath and smiled at me. My own body had relaxed when I saw that hers had. I couldn't believe that all of that was about her being nervous.
"And you'll still buy me cookies?" She asked in a small voice.
"Oh god, I thought this had nothing to do with cookies."
"Well, now it does."
"Fine, yes, I will buy you cookies. Can we go now?"
Kayla nodded at me and grabbed my hand. I led her out of the kitchen and into the backyard where Zane and Arissa were waiting. I had yet to go to the pack house, so I had no clue where it was.
After about a ten minute walk we came upon a large three story brick house. Each level had its own balcony that seemed to wrap around the entire house. Each floor had at least four windows facing me, which all seemed to be as tall as me, if not taller. White shutters clung to each window and flower pots were sitting in various positions on the window ledges. A large set of white double doors were wide open in a welcoming manner. The house as a whole looked completely out of place in the forest.
"How many people live here?" Kayla asked
"Well there are 24 rooms total in the house, you could fit two to a room, so up to 48." Zane answered.
"Oh," Kayla squeaked.
I gave her hand what I had hoped was a reassuring squeeze, and pulled her towards the house. I just wanted to get us inside before we started arguing over cookies again.
