Chapter 9:

-Clove-

Unfortunately, Haymitch walked in at a bad time. I was taking a huge gulp from my water and seeing him made me do a spit take.

“Clove” Glim says.

“Sorry” I say with wide eyes.

Awkward silence fell over the group.

“So would anyone bother to tell me about the incident?” Haymitch says flopping down on the couch.

“Well…” Marvel started.

“Well this is awkward” Johanna whispered loudly to Gale.

Haymitch rolled his eyes.

“Yeah. And Breadboy’s a giraffe sure” he continues sarcastically.

“Can we get serious?” Peeta asks sounding annoyed.

Even his tone scared me.

“Yeah. Let’s” Haymitch says.

“So how did she go missing? Who was there that night?” he asks again.

“I was. She excused herself to the restroom and I fell asleep. When I woke, I found out she was gone” he says coolly.

“Alright. Thanks. I’ll be going now” he says and makes a stop at our fridge.

“I’ll be taking the beer if you don’t mind. See ya!” he waves before leaving.

“That was mine” Cato grumbles.

 “Why him?!”

“Seriously? Haymitch Abernathy?”

 “He’s a teacher for Christ’s sake”

I stayed quiet for I knew the truth. I knew Haymitch was a top notch agent or something.

“Clover why  aren’t you protesting?” Annie asks.

“I know he can do the job.” I say.

“How?” Gale inquires.

“Because he’s my relative”

-Katniss-

Night came and I can hear the faint sound of the television and snores on the other side of the door. Deciding it was now or never, I took out my knife and selected a small one. I fit it in the lock and started to pick it. I heard the lock click and I tried my best to silently turn the knob.

I peeked at the other side. The twins were asleep on the couch and I’m guessing the other guy was the other figure under the blankets. I saw the moonlight peeking from the glass door that leads to a beach. I started to inch towards the door, cautious about making a sound.

When I finally got to the door I tried my best to open it quietly. I looked behind me often just to see if they’ve awoken. I slipped through the small opening and the smell of seawater hits my nose instantly.

I felt a sudden burst of happiness run through me. There was also relief. I felt relieved to finally escape. My fingers stroked the charm bracelet.

Now to figure out where I am…

I started walking to what looked like the city. My ears took in the sound of footsteps on sand behind me but I was a second too late. A hand grabs my arm.

I glance back and squirm at his touch.

“Let go of me!” I growl and tried to run.

He only grabs hold of my other arm.

“No escaping” he simply says and pulls me as if I weighed nothing.

“What do you want from me?” I cry out.

“You’re parents are rich. Boss wants ransom” he says.

“Rich?” I started to laugh.

“First, it’s parent. Dear father is dead. And two I’m not rich! I live with my aunt and my mom’s far away!” I say.

“You’re one of them. A relative”

“Of what family if I may ask?” I question

“Don’t play dumb girl” he says shaking his head.

“I’m not” I mutter

“If you’ve forgotten, you’re one of them. And when I mean them a part of the Wellers” he says.

Wellers? That’s Glimmer not me!

“I’m actually surprised that your absence wasn’t flashed on the police station” he says.

“I’m Katniss Everdeen! I’m no Weller!” I yell at him.

“Whatever” he says.

I start to squirm wildly again as we neared my prison.

“I’m not going back in there”

“Don’t make me do this” he says.

“Go on” I challenge him with my chin high.

A look of sympathy flashed in his eyes before he puts the foul smelling rug on nose.
