Chapter 12:
-Katniss-
I took off limping. Every now and then, pain would shoot up from my ankle. The bag Boggs gave me was slung over my shoulder. I stopped for a breath when I heard a gunshot behind me. A frown appeared on my face.
Could it be? Boggs?
I felt determined to get somewhere safe and the simple thought of someone shooting another gave me the strength to move. The nearest building was about a few meters away.
The hot sun was making my clothes cling to me with sweat. I brushed back sweat from my forehead with the back of my hand. I finally reached the building and sat on a bench near it.
It was a public place, no one would try anything here. I take the bag from my shoulder and open it. Like he said, my stuff was in here. My stuff meaning the jewelry Glimmer lent me. There was money, I counted to about a five hundred Australian dollars. I spotted the silver case of the phone. I quickly took it out of the bag.
I tapped the contacts and easily spotted the name ‘Haymitch Abernathy’ I tapped his name and pressed the phone to my ear.
Please Haymitch, don’t be drunk. I pleaded in my mind.
After about five rings he picked up.
“Hello?” he answers annoyed.
“Haymitch!” I croak out.
“Who’s this?” he asks.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
“It’s Katniss” I answer.
“Where are you?” he asks getting serious.
“I don’t know” I answer him.
“Look around!” he says.
“I am you old drunk!” I snap.
I looked for a street name but found none
“There’s no street name” I say.
“Keep walking and find one” he orders.
I leave the bench and walked around, turning corners and crossing roads. I spotted water again, but this time with lots of boats and the Sydney Opera House.
“Haymtich!” I yell into the phone.
“Finally found one?” he ask.
"I see the Sydney Opera House” I say excitedly.
“What? I cant hear you” he says.
“Sydney Opera House”
By the time I said that, I was in Circular Quay, near the water.
“Sydney? I didn't catch the other part” he asks.
“Yeah. Opera-“ I didn’t get the chance to finish my sentence when a little girl bumps into me. The phone slips from my hand and lands in the water.
“Crap” I curse silently.
“Sorry” the little girl tells me. I look at her.
She was probably about five or six. Her blonde hair was in two braids and her blue eyes shone in the sunlight. I didn’t have the heart to be mad at her. She reminded me too much of Prim
“It’s fine” I say, smiling slightly.
“Sapphire” she finishes.
“What?” I turn my head back to her.
“My name is Sapphire” she says quietly.
“Nice to meet you Sapphire. I’m Katniss” I flash her a small smile.
“Where’s your mom?” I ask.
She looks around confused.
“I’m lost” she says with teary eyes.
“I am too” I say as we sat down on the side of the pavement. She smiles at me and I feel warmth grow inside me.
-Haymitch-
“Sydney?” I ask her.
“Yeah. Opera-“ She says and the line goes dead.
Shit! I hurry and put on my shoes and make my way to the elevator. It sped down to the lobby and I hailed a cab quickly.
”Where to?” he asks. I tell him the address of the kids’ hotel. After a few minutes, my eye was twitching and it took all of me not to lash out on the driver.
“Can we go faster?” I ask, irritated.
The driver meets my eyes through the rearview mirror and steps on it. I sit back in the seat. After a few minutes, he gets slow again.
“Look I really need to get there fast” I say. He says and steps on it again. I spot the building and just my luck, traffic appeared.
“Goddammit” I curse. I started yelling at the driver how to avoid being stuck in traffic and soon, we emerged from it three minutes later. I toss a bill on the front seat and heard the driver mutter something insulting. I rolled my eyes and slammed the door.
-Clove-
I watched the city from the window. I saw Haymitch slam the door on the cab and marched in the entrance. I suppressed a chuckle.
“What’s funny?” a voice behind me asks. I turn and see Marvel.
“Haymitch” I reply and he sits beside me to take a look.
He also laughs but it soon dies from the awkward air between us.
“You’re talking to me again?” I ask without looking at him.
“Yeah…” he starts off.
The guilt was eating me up. Without thinking, I bursted out rambling. “Marvel I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you. I really was in a bad mood that time with Kat missing and all” I was cut off with his lips on mine.
I blinked.
“What are you doing?” I ask.
“I’m sorry too… I overreacted” he gives me a half-smile.
“So are we cool?” I ask.
He rolls his eyes and leaned forward to press his lips to mine again. This time, I smiled in the kiss. I held the side of his face as his arm wrapped around my waist.
“God please take it in the room” Finn said with a smirk.
“Kiddos let’s go!” Haymitch yelled as he barged in our room.
“Kiddos?” I say
“I meant you lot” he says rolling his eyes.
“Glimmer!” Marvel yells and Glimmer emerges from one of the rooms with Annie behind her.
“Yeah?” she asks.
“We have to go” Haymitch said.
“We’re leaving” Glimmer yells and everyone came out of their rooms.
“Great. Being stuck in this fancy place is boring me to hell” Gale says.
“I need food” Johanna adds.
“Let’s go!” Haymitch says and we all take the lift to the lobby where the rental van was.
Cato sat in the driver's seat.
“Where to?” he asks.
“Sydney Opera House” Haymitch says
A/N: Heyyyyoo! So she hacked again -_- There's nothing I can do about that. Hope you liked the chapter. I felt like I needed to lighten the mood after Boggs :\
