Chapter 34:
To say I am in shock was an understatement. I gaped as he walked away. This is what you wanted right? I thought.
A few moments later, I unfroze from my daze and looked around. Everyone seemed to notice his absence. Clove raised an eyebrow at me as if to ask ‘What happened?’.
I shrug and my attention is diverted as Peeta comes in and sits down beside me. But he was distant, as if he didn’t know me, as if we were strangers. He then faces me. Even the air around him seemed stranger-like.
“Hi” he says, smiling slightly.
“Hi” I reply, unsure where this was going. He thrusts his hand out and says “I’m Peeta Mellark”
Then I caught on and rolled my eyes.
“Peet!” I whined and bury my face in my hands.
“C’mon Katniss” he breaks character “It’s a new start. Play along” he smirks and returns his hand.
“I’m Peeta Mellark” he repeats
“Katniss Everdeen” I say after a while and shake his hand with an easy smile.This is definitely what I needed. A new start.
