Chapter 18:
-Katniss-
Peeta looked me in the eye and glanced toward his hand, which was placed on the table. He gestured lowly the numbers 3, 2, and 3 again.
Code 323 meant emergency meeting. I nod and Clove, who was beside me saw as well and passes the message.
Marvel speaks up.
“Effie may we all be excused. We have some things to clean up”
“Of course” she replies.
We all rise from the table, leaving a sour-faced Delly Cartwright. We all gathered in Marvel’s room.
“I’m stuffed” Clove whispers.
“I know. The toast was great” Johanna joins her.
I roll my eyes and sit on the couch, taking half of the space.
“Move” Annie says squishing in beside me. I grin at her.
“That really means you’re fat Katniss. You have half the couch” Finn says from the floor.
“I’m a healthy person” I stick my tongue out.
“Okay, what about the Delly situation?” Glimmer asks
“I don’t think we should do anything about it” Annie says timidly.
“What? Are you serious Ann?” Gale says.
“She bumped into my car on purpose” I point out.
“She destroyed the science project we were working on and pinned the blame on me” Clove says.
“Do any of you remember the day I had to try out for track?” Jo asks.
Everyone nods but me.
“Right, she moved” she mutters.
“Well on the way to the gym I slipped and fell, breaking my ankle. The floor was wet. I may have hit my head but I saw her escaping from the hallway” Jo says darkly.
“Everyone deserves a second chance” Annie points out.
“Well she has flirted with all of your lovable guy friends” Finn says.
“Then she stuck with Peet” Cato adds.
“Don’t remind me” I say.
“Here’s the deal. Don’t be indifferent towards her. Give it time, who knows? She might have changed” she says.
“Might” Peeta emphasizes.
“Yes I said might. If not well, don’t attack her unless she’s done something to you. No one needs to be on Effie’s bad side” she concludes.
We all nod in agreement.
“Well if that’s all I’d like to take a shower” she starts to stand up.
“Meet at the pool?” Cato says.
“Let’s” Glim agrees.
“15 minutes. Last one in treats everyone ice cream” Clove says, dragging my arm out of the room.
Everyone fled the room and went into their own.
“I call shower first” Clove sang and rushes to the bathroom. After 2 minutes, Clove comes out of the shower in a towel. “
