Chapter 27: Mazes

Chapter 27:

-Glimmer-

I spent the rest of yesterday contemplating whether to tell or not. Then when I got home, I slept it off. I woke up bright and early, already set to tell the others.

“Morning Glim” Annie greets me once I sit beside her.I nod in response.

“I have to tell you something” I say.

“Go on” she urges.

“Alright” I took a breath.

“Yesterday, I went to the restroom and I overheard Maysilee and Delly talking”

“About?” “Delly replacing Katniss in the project. Maysilee told her that she didn’t think it was fair but Delly tried to bribe her” “and then?” “She didn’t accept it. So Delly threatened her and she gave in”

“Does she know that you heard?” “Only Maysilee. I asked her why. And she said personal reasons” “The others have to know” “I rather you told them” I say.

Soon enough, the rest of the victors arrived. I remained silent, listening as Annie told them what I told her.

“That’s Bullshit” Johanna says.

“just for a role?”

“That’s what I thought” I told my brother. 

“Where’s Katniss?” I asked.

“With Peeta” Clove answers.

“Hell that’s fucked” Cato says.

“What’s fucked?” Katniss strolled in with Peeta behind her.

“What Glimmer heard yesterday. I was leaning on Cato, cautious of how Katniss would react.

“What did you hear?” Katniss asks. I look to Annie and she nods.

“I’ll explain” she starts.

Annie repeats what I said and Katniss puts on a face of disbelief.

“Now this is just sick. Guys please. Respect Maysilee’s decision. If you’re against what she did then I suggest you take it to her” Katniss says before leaving the room.

-Two Weeks Later|Katniss|-

“Okay places! You should all be ready in 15 minutes now go change!” Maysilee exclaims happily.

“That’s our cue. Let’s go?” Glim says.

I nod and follow. After the incident during homeroom, I’ve been feeling distant from them but right now, it seems like we’re fine. We headed to the restroom with our costumes. Mine, Clove’s and Glimmer’s were packed in a bag. Annie and Johanna were bringing those big dress bags. After all, they had to wear full length dresses. 

We changed quickly. I had my brown boots on, a brown newsboy styled cap, my white camisole-like top and the skirt that reached my ankles. Glimmer was dressed in a plain shirt with a dark purple cardigan and jeans, paired with sneakers. Clove was muttering curses as she examined herself. She was wearing a black top and a black skirt.The skirt went a few inches above her knees.

Glimmer was forcing her to put on the leopard-print heels. I rolled my eyes at them.

“Clover at least you got to wear normal clothes. Take a look at me!” Johanna exclaimed. She was in a pretty dark red Victorian style dress and sandals.

“You look pretty” Glim comments.

“Thanks” she says dully.

After fixing our hair, we headed back to the theatre room. Our classmates were in costume as well. Most of the people were still reahearsing. We were walking back to our seats when I caught Delly’s eye.
