Chapter 28:
-Katniss-
After the kiss, Peeta and I raced back to the party. It ended up with me losing, no thanks to my shoes. He wraps his arms around my waist and leans in and I meet him halfway.
“Let’s go then?” he asks.
“You go ahead. I still want to walk” I reply.
“You want me to go with you?”
“No I’m good” I smile genuinely. He nods and returns to our friends.
I was walking back in the maze, taking a different path. My, hand brushing over the green wall.
“Oh look who’s here” a voice behind me taunts.
“Delly…” I say aggravated.
She giggles and takes a swig from her bottle.
“What do you want?” I ask calmly.
“Nothing… I was just wondering why Peeta would want someone like you” she eyes me up and down. I noticed her swaying slightly.
“I don’t know either” I say.
“Oh you don’t?” she laughs again.
“You’re all he fucking wants!” she started laughing bitterly.
“I watched you two. I didn’t choose to. I just happened to hear everything you both confessed in the mazes”
“Why are you still here? Can’t you see that arguing with me is pointless? And you’re tipsy” I say.
She rolled her eyes and took another drink from her bottle. “I don’t give a damn”
“And I don’t give a damn about you either” I say and start to turn but she holds on to my elbow.
“Why you? Ever since you bumped into him first day it was always you! What do you have that I don’t?” she asks.
I remain silent. She has tears falling down, smudging her make up.
“We were friends. We were” she grumbles.
“I don’t know what the fuck happened. He met your precious little group and started to ignore me. I did everything. I went to hell and back. I went through so much for him to notice me. I even made my family befriend his!” she says.
“How the fuck did a little girl from Kentucky made Peeta fucking Mellark want her so badly hmm?” she smiles drunkenly.
“Delly, I don’t have time for this” I say.
“No. You’re here and I want to talk” she says as if we were the best of friends.
“Even when we were friends, he was never like that. He was different with you. He loves you” she cracks there, her grip on my elbow, loosening till she takes her hand away entirely.
“I love him Everdeen! Why can’t he see that?” she yells at the sky.
“I love him” her tears were flowing freely.
She sinks to the ground, kicking off her heels, I decided to do the same, feeling the soft grass underneath my feet. I lowered down to her level. She was wrapping her arms around herself, body racking with sobs.
“Delly… I’m sorry”
“No you’re not” she says.
“But I am” I say, holding on to her hands.
“I kept myself thin. I wore the latest clothes. I made sure I looked perfect. I joined cheerleading for fucks sake and all he’ll ever give me is the time of day” she cries.
“He’s perfect. Everything I ever wanted. But he doesn’t want me. Instead he wants you. I’ve known him longer…” she trails off.
“I’m guessing that you’re pissed at me. I’m here, blabbing how much I want your boyfriend” she says.
“I’m not angry at you” I say firmly.
“But I really do feel sorry”
“I don’t want your pity! Fuck I never wanted anyone’s!” “You know what, forget this, just because I cried for a night doesn’t mean I’m going to stop. He’s mine” she declared proudly.
And then I decided to make a stand of my own.
“No he’s not”
A/N: I hope that made up for the last chapter. I felt sorry for the Poor Girl :(( SO i decided on a backstory.
