Chapter 30:

-Katniss-

“PRIM!” a strangled cry rose from my throat.

Clove stepped on the brakes and turned back towards the airport.

“Call the fire department!” she yelled. I whipped out my phone and speed dialled the authorities.

“Hello? There was a plane crash just a few m-minutes ago” I stuttered.

“We heard. We have a team on the way there”

“Thank you” I said before ending the call. I didn’t wait for Clove to park properly. I immediately rushed out of the car and ran inside.

Chaos greeted me there. Everyone was in hysterics. Cries of anger and horror emerged from the crowd. I ran to a security personnel and asked about what happened.

“Miss the plane caught on fire. It landed a few miles from here. It’s still undergoing investigation”

“And the passengers?” I sounded like a broken child.

“Are being rescued”

“Can you take me there?”

“But-“ “I’ll pay” I said firmly.

“Fine” he sighed and handed me a yellow piece of paper.

“This is your pass. If you can get there, you’d be able to enter the area” he said.

“Thank you so much!” I quickly said before I took off running.

“Clove!!” I waved my hands. She stopped the car and I got in.

“So?” “We have a pass  there” “Alright” she said and stepping on the gas pedal.

We drove to the direction of the crash. The area was grassy and cool. The place was too peaceful for something like this. Clove and I stepped out of the car and ran to the police nearby and flashed the paper. He immediately let us enter the area.

The scene was filled with reporters and authorities. “Are there any survivors?” I asked frantically.

“Yes they’re letting them out now” an officer replied.

I watched the people being loaded out of the plane, looking out for Prim. I was sure that I was shaking.

Clove put her arm around me, nervous as well.

“Where is she?” I muttered to myself.

“She’ll make it” Clove said, her throat tight. “She has to” she continues.

Finally, a girl in a familiar blue cardigan was taken out and loaded into a stretcher.

“Prim!” I yelled her name and ran without thinking, dodging people.

“PRIM!” I cried frantically, clutching the stretcher.

“Miss please, we have to-“ The medics’ voices faded in my ears. I only heard my own strangled cries and only felt their hands gripping my arms and the tears that have started falling down my face.

For what felt like years, I sobbed and struggled to breathe. I saw Prim’s face, some parts of her skin burnt.
