Chapter 10: Unsettled Ransom

Chapter 10:

-Clove-

“He’s your relative?” Finn gaped at me.

I simply nodded and pressed my lips into a thin line.

“Yeah he is. Can we get over it?” I ask.

“Sorry Clover but everyone’s quite shocked” Cato tells me. 

I rolled my eyes and took a drink from my water bottle.

“Yes. He’s my uncle and mom’s cousin” I tells them.

Some of them were still trying to process the new information whilst I rolled my eyes once more.

"Actually I don't blame you guys. Me and Kat only found out over a month ago" I shrug.

Saying Katniss' name only sent a wave of sadness through me. My eyes locked with the one person who would understand me. Marvel. After a few seconds, I looked away feeling nothing but regret.

Boggs pitied the girl. He thought she was kidding when she said she wasn’t a Wellers but the look on her face made him think otherwise.

She said her name was Katniss Everdeen. He could recall dropping by the local police station and looking at the list of missing people. He was surprised that the name Wellers wasn’t in there. But he could also recall seeing the name Everdeen  

He knew his friend would be mad at him for returning to her but he couldn’t help it. She threatened his family and when he disobeyed orders, eliminated them. He had no choice but to do what she wanted.

The phone on the table rang and Boggs answered it immediately.

“Coin” he addressed her. The very murderer he loathes.

“Yes. Boggs. I’ll be coming there in a few minutes” she says and hangs up.

He frowned at the now blank screen of his phone.

“Castor” he calls out.

“Castor!” he said louder.

He saw him get up.

”Coin’s coming. Clean yourselves” he orders them and Castor wakes his brother.

Minutes later, Coin appeared at the door, wearing nothing but grey, a shade darker than her hair and her eyes.

“Let’s settle the ransom” she says, getting to the point immediately.

“Let’s” I say, ushering her to a chair.

”What have you gotten from her?” she asks.

“These” I say and Castor hands me a bag that contained the girl’s jewellery.

“Only this? I thought she would have more” Coin says.

Boggs made sure to drop the charm bracelet, he felt guilty and that somehow eased it only by a little and he could not see the value of the bracelet.

“She denied being a Wellers” Boggs starts.

Coin cracked an amused smile. “Well let’s test it. Show me where she is” Coin says.

Boggs rises and Castor and Pollux trail behind them both. Boggs fits the key in the hole and opens the door. On the mattress, there was a brunette still knocked up from the drug.

“That’s not her alright” Coin says through gritted teeth.

“Pardon?” Boggs asks

“That’s not her you nitwit! You took the wrong girl” Coin says.

Her fingers were on her temples.

“I’ll be going. Oh and Boggs?”

Boggs looks at her

. “You know what to do with mistakes. In case you’ve forgotten, dispose of her” she snarls and slams the door behind her.

He looked at the two brothers and they all knew none of them wanted to kill her.

In another hotel, Haymitch Abernathy was trying to get facts together.

Why of all people Katniss Everdeen?

He scribbled down everything Mellark told him the previous night. He only knew one person who had a record of active criminals in Australia. He lifted the phone and hoped that he still had the same number. Pressing the phone to his ear, he wondered what those kids were up to.

“Hello?” a voice answered.

“Hello Boggs. Fancy doing me a favour?” Haymitch asks his old friend.

“You haven’t talked to me in years and this is what I get as a hello?” Boggs joked over the phone.

“I need your help” Haymitch says, setting the mood as serious.

“What is it you need?”

“I have a missing person to find”

“You’re back in the business again Haymitch?”

“Yes. And I hope you’re not” Boggs hated to disappoint his friend but he was certain he would understand.

“I am too. Sorry Haymitch. Coin caught up with me” Boggs explained.

“I understand. As I was saying a relative of mine is missing, perhaps you might know who took her?” Haymitch asks.

“What’s her name?” Boggs asks

“Katniss Everdeen” Boggs’ eyes widened, he almost dropped the phone.

“Could you check your um… contacts if they have her?” Haymitch asks.

“I-sure” Boggs says.

“Thanks. When we see each other, I owe you a drink” Haymitch says.

Boggs saw the girl started to stir

“I’ll remember and I’m afraid that I should be going now. Bye Haymitch” Boggs says and ends the call.

He stepped out of the room. He has Haymitch’s relative. She was telling the truth. He saw the hairpin in her hair.

She used that to pick a lock? Astounding.

But his thoughts were interrupted when Castor spoke to him.

“Boggs, are we really going to dispose of her?”

Beside him stood his brother, silent and scared. His eyebrows furrowed together.

“I’m afraid so”

But  deep inside him, he knew he couldn’t. And he won’t.

A/N: I felt like I had to focus on that part :\ Anyway I promise that the next chapter will focus on the victors and do you want Clove/Marvel back? I'm conflicted :)
