Chapter 11:
-Katniss-
When I finally gained consciousness, a headache strikes me with no mercy. I hiss in pain and struggled to get up.
My eyes adjust to the room’s light, which was bright at this time. I’m guessing it’s about noon. I found another glass of water on the table. I reached for it and gulped it all.
Panic started to rise in me when I remember my escape attempt. Obviously, I couldn’t go through the door. There’s no other choice left but the window.
I frowned deeply as I pressed my ear against the door. I listened to the distinct sound of my guards talking.
I sighed.
I wanted to escape. To flee from this prison and I won’t waste any more time in here. My hand reached for the knife concealed in my boot. I’m quite shocked they didn’t find this.
Sweat made my clothes cling to me and I brushed back loose strands of my dark hair, noticing that my hair pin was gone.
Like I did a few days back, I stacked the chair on top of the table and after, stood on top of it.
Climbing trees has given me balance, which I’m thankful for.
Holding on to the ledge, I picked the lock as my heart raced. When it finally opened, I lift myself to the opening and sit on the edge, my feet dangling below. I turn around slowly so now I face the golden sand of the beach.
Sand is soft. I keep telling myself.
With hunter’s ears, I grew accustomed to being sensitive to sound. I noticed my guards stop talking and the sound of chairs being pulled back.
With a gulp and a quick prayer, I jumped out. I lay on my back with my ankle throbbing. It’s taking everything I have not to scream in pain.
I let out a hiss and started to limp to the direction of the city. I held on to a palm tree as tears finally fell down.
I was biting on my lip. Hard. I held on to the bark of the tree tightly, just to help me deal with the pain.
“Stop!” I hear the man again call me.
I grit my teeth and start to run or at least my lame attempts at running.
In a flash he was there again, holding on to my arm. I fell down and was met with sand in contact with my face.
“Let me go!” I yell as I try to run.
“I’m not a Wellers!” I say.
“I know” he breathes.
“So why am I still here?” I question.
“In this business when you take the wrong person, you dispose of them” he starts.
My eyes grew wide as my pulse raced. Fear started to fill me.
“But I’m not going to do that” he says.
My brows furrow in confusion
“Why?” I ask again.
“Because there are people who need you” he frowns at that statement.
“Listen Katniss? That your name kid?” he asks.
I couldn’t do anything but nod my head.
“Go straight forward and you’ll see the city”
My eyes follow his as they stared at the buildings close by.
“When you get there, return to your friends. Don’t look back. Here” he lets go of my arm and thrusts my bag to me.
“Here’s your stuff. There's the jewelry. I put money in there so you can take a cab, a bus, whatever”
I felt everything stuck in my throat at the sudden turn of events.
“When you’re safe, there’s a phone in there. Call the number saved in there. It’s your relative, Haymitch”
“You know Haymitch?” I ask bewildered.
“He saved my ass. And he’s the investigator assigned to your case” he tells me.
I nod my head wildly, taking all the information in.
“Also here” he drops the hairpin in my palm.
“Now go” he orders.
“Who are you and why are you helping me?” I ask.
“I’m Boggs. You remind me of someone I knew very well. And your Haymitch’s blood relative and I’d do anything for him. Now go” he gives me a gentle shove and I nod to him as a thank you.

When she finally disappeared, Boggs heard the sound of a gun being loaded.
“You let her go” Coin says, smiling wickedly.
“I did” Boggs answered proud with his chin high.
Boggs knew the consequences he’d have to face for that one act of kindness. He was suddenly reminded of his little girl in Katniss for they had similar features
“Too bad” Coin says before multiple bullets pierced the body of the person who took Katniss Everdeen, held her hostage and set her free.
Somehow he was content, for he could see his little girl smiling up from heaven already.
