Chapter 31: Well

Chapter 31:

-Katniss-

“She’s?” I repeat.

“She’s alive” I felt all the heaviness in my chest fly away.

“But she’s quite unwell”

Clove and I shared a relieved but tired look.

“May we see her?” Clove asked. “Of course. She’s at 405” The doctor said before leaving us.

Clove and I shared a tight hug before gathering our things, in my case a sole water bottle.

“Is she fine?” Peeta asked.

“Yeah” I said.

“We’ll visit her now” I said.

“I have to go Kat. Tell Prim I’ll visit her soon” Annie said, hugging me. “Sure Ann. I’ll pass that on” “I better get going too” Jo said and they both were gone.

“We’re leaving too. I promised Cato’s dad that I’d catch the baseball game with them” Finn apologized.

“Aww can I watch too?” Gale said.

Clove flicked his ear. “You say that in front of her?” she hissed.

“It’s fine Clove. Bye guys” I gave them a wave and they too dispersed and so did Marvel and Glimmer, claiming that their mother was probably home by this time.

“And then there were three” I say. “I’m guessing you have some bakery business you have to attend to?” I asked Peeta.

“Nah. Actually I do but I don’t feel like doing so” he shrugs.

“So there are three, let’s go now” Clove said impatiently and we all caught the elevator to the 4th floor. We stopped in front of the room labelled 405. I rapped my knuckles on the door and peeked in.

“Prim?” I called out silently.

“Katniss?” Prim said.

“Hey” I said, fully stepping inside and walking over to her. I kissed her forehead and sat on the chair beside the bed.

“Hey kiddo” Clove said and sat on her other side while Peeta sat beside me. “Hey Prim, how are you feeling?” he asked.

“Better” she said, grinning.

“It’s your birthday tomorrow” I said.

“I know” she said, leaning back. 

“Do you want anything?”

“Just cake, as always” she said.

“You have to have a gift. C’mon kiddo, what do you want?” Clove said.

“Just cake” she repeated. Clove didn’t look convinced but left it.

“I’ll stay here every day till you’re better” I promised her.

“That’s good. Does mom know?” she asked.

“No. Should I?” I ask her.

“Don’t she’ll fly here and fuss too much” Prim replied.

“If you prefer it that way then fine” I smiled.

For the rest of the day, Clove and I stayed in the hospital with Prim. Peeta had to leave when his mother called him up, leaving us with an apology and a goodbye.

“Excuse me miss, visiting hours are over” a nurse popped in.

“Can we stay a bit longer?” Clove asked.

“Sorry but you’ve exceeded the 5 minutes” she said apologetically.

“We’ll be out in a minute” I said and she nods and closes the door.

“I’ll see you tomorrow” I said.

“With the cake?”

“Of course!” I said, ruffling her hair gently.

“Bye kiddo” Clove says and we both walk out of her room, returning to the car and back home
