Chapter 22 Part 1

THE WOMAN in the mobile phone center was very helpful. Mukhang na-starstruck ito kay Evan, pero naging efficient pa rin sa pagpapaliwanag ng plan sa kanila. She watched Evan listen carefully to the woman's explanation as if he was expecting the woman to give him a pop quiz later. Napangiti siya sa sarili. Sigurado siyang mabuting estudyante ang binata.

Well, he sure did learn fast, tukso ng isipan niya habang iniisip ang paggalaw ng binata sa kama. If she didn't know him, she wouldn't believe he had been a virgin before that night by the river.

Tumuloy sila sa Saramsam Ylocano Restaurant and Bar para sa lunch. The place was intimate and homey. Cream walls, dark wood furnishings and easy couches dominated the design. Colorful bottles sitting on wood floating shelves added vibrancy and life.

They sat huddled together in one corner as she showed him how to use his phone.

"Okay, this thing's for the text to speech function." She activated the Speak Selection and opened a website. She tapped and held on to the text area until the option appeared.

"Now, just highlight the parts you want to read." Ginawa niya iyon para ipakita rito. "Then tap the Speak button." Pinindot niya iyon at binasa na ng iPhone ang text. "It reads text messages and emails, too. Kung gusto mo, p'wede ka ring mag-dictate ng text message." Ngumiti siya rito. "Sweet, right?"

He smiled and nodded. The dim light softened the color of his hair and skin, but it couldn't temper the masculine hardness of his features. "Can I change the voice reading to me?"

Kumunot noo siya. "Bakit? Ayaw mo ng boses ni Siri?" tukoy niya sa virtual assistant sa iPhone.

Ngumiti ito at bumaling sa pagkain nito. Humiwa ito ng piraso ng Bangus at sinubo. "No, but can I personalize it? Use another person's voice?"

Lumalim ang kunot niya at absent minded niyang pinadaan ang mga daliri sa buhok. "No, I don't think so. I think there are a few options about changing the voice, but you can't upload another voice and use it. Walang gano'n."

"Okay." Kuntento itong sumubo ulit.

"Bakit?" Malawak siyang ngumiti. "Kaninong boses ang gusto mo gamitin? Sa 'kin?"

"Yeah." Sumubo ulit ito ng bangus at ngumuya.

Tumawa siya at pinugpog ito ng halik. "You're so sweet!"

He grinned and pecked her lips.

Kinagatan niya ang kanyang Pinakbet pizza, at nakita niyang umasim ang hitsura ni Evan. Tumawa siya at umiling.

"What?" She licked the mozzarella from the corner of her lips. "It's good, try it!"

Umurong ito sa kanya at tumawa ulit siya.

"Evan, part Ilokano ka, Pinakbet is the Ilokano's blood!"

"I eat Pinakbet, but not Pinakbet pizza."

Tumawa ulit siya at inayos ang laylayan ng kanyang knee length, lilac summer dress. "It's good, try mo lang. Just one bite, you gotta try everything at least once. 'Wag lang drugs, siyempre."

Kung titigan nito ang pizza ay parang may nakatagong Anthrax doon.

"Come on, Evan, wala ka namang allergy sa bagoong, hindi ba?"

Umiling ito at tumaas na rin ang sulok ng mga labi. Tapos ay ibinuka ang bibig at kinagatan ang nilapit niya slice.

"Okay naman ang combination ng bagoong at mozzarella, di ba?" she asked. Dinilaan niya ang mga daliring may cheese at bagoong at kinagatan ulit ang slice ng kanyang pizza.
