Chapter 43

Levy woke up in the middle of the night in pain.
Her body felt like it was on fire, she was drenched in sweat and the pain has started to reach her lower neck and her torso.
She looked around and noticed a small candle light on the floor next to her cage.
"Can't sleep?"
Levy looked up and saw Cole laying on the floor, reading a book.
"M-my shoulder hurts"
"Sorry to hear that" he never took his eyes off his book.
"A member of a dark guild reading a book? Oh my Mavis" Levy struggled to sit up against the cage bars.
"Between you and me, I don't really want to be here." He closed his book and laid on his back.

Levy looked at him with concern, if he didn't want to be here then why is he still here?
"Ok spill it" Levy crossed her arms as he turned his head towards her.
"What?"
"Spill it, your story, I want to know everything..but first bring me a glass of water" she smirked as he got up with a slight smile on his face.
"You know, I'm your guard not your servant"

He left the room and came back with a glass of cold water.
He placed it inside the cage and sat facing her.
She held the cup up to her lips and drank a bit before placing it down and wrapping herself with the blanket that was in the cage.
"Well it all started about 3 years ago"

"I met this girl, Lindsey, she was beautiful. She had long blue hair and stunning brown eyes..she was outgoing and loved to read"
"She sounds amazing" Levy laid down and got comfortable as he continued.

"We dated for about a year before I popped the 'marry me' question..she said yes and we soon got a little house for the both of us" he smiled to himself but his face got serious.

"I really wanted to join a guild, it was my dream, but I didn't want to seclude Lindsey because she wasn't a mage..I brought it up to her and she told me to not worry and to just go for it."
Levy smiled as he opened up to her about his life.

"But one day, I felt like I was being followed. I looked behind me every second and noticed a girl behind a wall peeking at me..I asked her what she wanted and she asked if I wanted to join her guild"

"I was desperate at the time and went with her to check out her guild, when I entered the building it looked beautiful, she told me that there were only a few members and that they were out of town..soon after I agreed and joined the guild.."
"Was it a good guild?" Levy asked which made him swallow and hush her to keep quiet and to listen.

"I told my fiancé and she was so happy for me, that was the night she told me that she was pregnant"
"That's so cute!" Levy silently squealed in her blanket.
Cole rolled his eyes and continued.
"

"But the next day, I entered the guild to introduce myself to the other members that were returning..but it was only one guy. He didn't look human, he had burn scars and scars everywhere"
"X....wait! So that girl was Triss?!"
He nodded.
"The first mission wasn't as I expected, she told me it was about people who stole money. She took me to a bank and told me to follow her and X, so I did and she ran in and started yelling.."
"Sounds like a friend of ours.." Levy giggled.

"She started pointing her bow at the customers and X smashed the windows that led to the teller. I was shocked and stood there while Triss was telling me to transport the money inside the vault to the guild, I refused and she got angry saying that I wanted to join a guild so she's giving me the opportunity...so I did it"

Levy covered her mouth as his face saddened.

"I would come home stressed, ignore my fiancé and go straight to bed..she would question me but I would get upset and say it was nothing. I realized the guild was just using me to help them do bad things so I went to Triss and told her that I wanted to leave the guild. She told me that I knew too much, she couldn't let me go and if I told anyone about the guild that she would kill me. I got upset and ran out..I should of never ran out" he placed his hands over his face, making Levy reach out of the cage and touch his arm for comfort.

"I was going to pack up everything and move away from the town, the guild, Triss, and start a new life with Lindsey..but when I came home the door was unlocked and the lights were turned off-" Cole closed his eyes and took a deep sigh.

"Lindsey was laying on our bed with arrows piercing every piece of skin on her body, there was blood everywhere and the words 'Just a warning, I'll see you tomorrow' were written on the wall above her..I ran to her side and held her head close to me, I kept repeating the same words 'I'm sorry' but I knew it wouldn't bring her back...I left the house in tears and I knew Triss would kill me if I ran so I went back to the guild..acted like nothing happened..and here I am..still in this hell hole" Cole crossed his arms waiting for Levy to respond.
"I-I'm sorry" she wiped her eyes with her blanket and sat up.
"Yea me too...anyways I told you my story..what about yours?"

"Me? Well I love to read, I'm a Solid Script Mage, I joined Fairy Tail when I was little, I grew up and got pinned to a tree by an iron idiot and I eventually fell in love with him and now here I am, in a cage" she laughed which made him chuckle.
"Interesting, tell me about him"
She looked him in the eyes and coughed.
"Well, he calls me nicknames according to my height, he's not very romantic, he likes to play the tough guy act but he's like a teddy bear, he picks on me, protects me..." Levy looked at the floor and smiled.
"He sounds like a jerk" Cole said.
"Like you have room to talk, you're keeping me in a cage mister"
"Touché" He yawned and stopped the candle flame.
"Cole?" Levy asked as she laid back down in the dark.
"Hmm?" He replied.
"Do you ever think you will fall in love again?"
He widened his eyes and moved them towards the ceiling.
"Yeah" he looked over at Levy, she was sound asleep, she had a soft snore which made him stare at her lips.
"Maybe sooner than I expected"
