We walked silently side by side. He didn't say anything to me. I wanted to tell him something but words would not come out. My mind kept going around in circles, there was no reason I had to explain myself but I wanted to.
We were early when we arrived. Taron merely leaned against the wall. His eyes were lowered to the ground. I leaned against the wall next to him.
"Zane should be here soon." He muttered to me. I peeked at his face, it was rather hard. It was expressionless. He was still annoyed.
"What does he mean to you?" he finally spoke up.
"You know." I whispered without looking at him. The back of his hand brushed my own.
"At least you are honest."
There was a low whistle. Jhené let out a low screech and she took off. Ares followed her. A couple of men appeared, they slowly made their way towards us. The Captain who had helped me came into view.
"Cap Zane" Taron shook his hand. "You know Iris." He tilted his head at me.
"Glad you made it okay." Captain Zane nodded at me.
"Put these on." Something was put in front of my eyes. It was a pair of gloves, I lifted my eyes to look at the person who had handed them to me. It was the man that Ezra had pinned to the ground. He was still wearing the same clothing.
"What are you doing here?" I stepped away from him, grasping Taron's arm.
"Don't worry about Max" Taron laughed at me. "He's on my side." he took Max's gloves from him and put them in my hand. "Put them on."
Captain Zane pulled out a map, and he placed it against the wall. I lifted my hand, and a small flame of fire appeared.
"What else can you do, witch?" Max asked warily. He didn't lift his eyes from my hand.
"Back off" Taron snapped at him. He gave him a dirty look. Max didn't respond to Taron, but his eyes were still on my hand.
"Lots of things." The flame on my palm grew bigger. "Want to try me?" I threatened him. Taron's eyes were on me. He didn't say anything else.
"Nope, but you might want to put those gloves on. There are some things you can't do." Max replied with a smirk.
I rolled my eyes in response at him
"Alright. Enough" Captain Zane shook his head at the both of us. "We are here to help each other. We have to get to the other two out, intact." He lifted my wrist up, so we could see the map clearly. "I know they are located in three different basements. Your mentor, Byron is in this room." he pointed at the farthest room. "They had been interrogating him since I left."
"Has he said anything?" I asked warily.
"No. He's been giving them a lot of trouble. No wonder he is your Keeper" Zane chuckled to himself. "The other mentors are here, and the Minister's nephew is with Ezra and Thomas. They hadn't been interrogated when I left. They should be fine. They didn't want the Minister's nephew involved in this." Zane pointed at the room.
"I have a plan." I answered not lifting my eyes from the map. They were my brothers, it was my responsibility to get them out.
"What's the plan Guardian?" Taron asked, with a smile. There was a shocked expression on their faces. They couldn't believe he was letting me take control. Good.
"Are you sure it will work?" Max asked warily. "It is a great plan but, I'm feeling a little doubtful."
"It is fine." I rolled my eyes at him. Taron took a deep breath. There were six other men that had joined us. To my surprise Lindsay was also coming along. Attached to her waist was a medium sized dagger. She was full of surprises. She stood next to Taron the entire time we discussed the plan. Her hand briefly touched him, and I turned away.
"So do we know what we are doing?" I asked, not looking over at him.
"Yup." Everybody nodded.
"Let's go." I lifted my knife out of my pocket. Max reminded me to put the gloves on.
"They will make sure you at least aren't captured." He stared down at my hands as I put them on. "Does having a flame on your hand hurt?"
"Nope." I started a flame, making sure I could make one with gloves on. He grimaced slightly but didn't say anything else.
We knew were the boys were being held and according to Captain Zane, they were being heavily guarded. We wouldn't be able to go in without being noticed, and without raising any alarm so I was going to get them inside.
"Ready?" I grasped Max and Captain Zanes wrists. We were a mile down the road from Captain Langersons' home. They both nodded. I concentrated intently on getting inside the grounds. My body felt like if it was being squeezed tightly, and like if I was barely breathing as I mirrored Thomas gift. I got them inside, and I soon disappeared to get two more. I had to make a total of four trips. The last I would carry would be Lindsay and Taron.
Lindsay grasped Taron's hand tightly, so we were standing in a circle. Taron met my eyes, they were shining brightly. A smile appeared at his lips, but he didn't say a word.
"That was horrible." Lindsay coughed. My head was starting to throb.
"You get used to it." I replied, shaking my head to get rid of the tired feeling I was developing. We were standing in a dark room. I could make out the silhouettes, from the others in the room.
"So like I mentioned." Captain Zane whispered. "There are tunnels, that run underneath his lands from building to building. We need to get to the building that is about five miles away."
"Well let's get moving." Taron put his hand on my back. "Iris." He slid his hand down my arm so he could grasp my wrist tightly. "Stay close by."
"You should stick close to me." I replied in a tight voice. Taron chuckled in response.
"Sure, you can protect me." he replied with humor in his voice. "I would actually like that."
"Don't be sarcastic, Taron. We don't have time for that." I snapped back at him. Lindsay laughed at both of us. Taron's lips twitched in response. He looked like if he wanted to throw back his head and laugh.
"You guys are funny." Lindsay pulled her dagger out of her halter. "Cap, want to lead the way."
"Sure." He nodded at us. He tilted his head so we could follow him. "It is quite a walk so partner up and keep your eyes peeled." He warned us. The hall was big enough so two people could walk side by side. Taron and I made up the rear, while Lindsay and the Captain made up the front.
"What do you think of Lindsay?"Taron asked me in a low voice. He was staring at the back of her head.
"She's fine." I shrugged, trying to not look at her. "You both get along well." I cleared my throat. I glanced behind me quickly. Taron turned to look behind too. I lifted my hand so we could see clearly. There was nothing.
"Yeah we do. She's been a close friend for many years." Taron responded, lifting my hand higher. "But do you trust her?"
"Sure." I shrugged at Taron.
"I know you have certain abilities that would allow you to see a person." Taron answered. I met his eyes.
Even though I was slightly annoyed that Taron and Lindsay knew each other really well. She was a good person.
"She is a good person I see why you trust her besides you are an excellent judge of character yourself." I couldn't help smiling up at him. He probably had a talent himself that allowed him to see people for who they truly were.
"That's the first compliment you have ever given me." Taron grinned widely at me.
"Ugh.' I nudged him so he wouldn't continue. "We have my boys to save, don't start." Taron put his hand on my back as we walked.
"Why did you want to know about Lindsay?" I asked, Taron in a low voice.
"Later." His lips barely moved. We walked silently next to each other. He didn't remove his hand from the small of my back as we walked. It was a rather comforting gesture. Even though the boys were in trouble, I was glad he was here. He was a comfort to have, and he was going to help me save the boys.
