Chapter 46

Ezra, Thomas and I stood still as the doors opened. I held my breath, as I saw the King and Queen walk in. William was behind them.

I averted my eyes so I wouldn't look at them.

"Your Highness" Dr. Nan bowed to them. "We present to you the 15th reign Guardians"

I kept my eyes straight. My grandma was looking at the Queen and King. I could see her mouth thinning slowly.

"What is this?" I heard the Queen hiss. I gulped, knowing that it was because of me. I immediately wanted to disappear.

"Your Highness" Dr. Langston stepped forward. I saw him stop. I heard some movement and the Queen came into my view.

"A Female Guardian" The queen turned outraged towards my grandma and the professors. Even the Headmistress was present. "Is this a joke?"

I could see a vein throbbing on my grandmother's forehead.

"Elizabeth" the King shook his head.

The Queen grabbed my face abruptly and she tilted my face. I glanced up at her meeting her eyes. There was so much anger on her face. Her eyes were turned to slits.

"Can someone explain to me...why a female is a Guardian?" she shouted.

"Elizabeth" my grandmother took a step forward. The Queen glanced icily her way. She hadn't released me. "Don't you put your hands on my grand-daughter?" my grandmother told her in a loud demanding voice. Her tone surprised me.

"Andrea hold your tongue" The Queen snapped at her. "Don't you dare tell me?"

I saw my grandmother's face turn red. I had never seen her look so angry. I was more scared of my grandmother than the Queen.

"I don't want a woman guarding my son. He will be vulnerable"

"Your son will not be taking the throne." My grandmother shouted at her. We were all holding our breaths. "

"I don't care" the Queen screamed at her. "I refuse to have her in the Guard. I do not want her as a Guardian."

"It is too late for that" Dr. Langston replied in a calm voice. "She has already been accepted and so have Ezra and Thomas."

"Why weren't we notified?" the King replied. He hadn't looked at me once since the Queen's outburst.

"I didn't want anybody notified" My grandmother huffed. She was glaring down at the King and Queen.

"Who are you to keep certain information from us" the Queen released me pushing me back.

My grandmother took a deep breath. she lifted her hand and she laughed. She threw her head back and she started to seriously laugh.

"I do not want her in the Guard. Fix it" she stabbed her finger my way barely missing my face. She suddenly grabbed my arm pulling me forward. I winced, her fingers were digging into my arm.

"Your highness you are"

"Don't speak to me child...don't you dare direct a single word to me" she seethed. Even though I had just been named a Guardian, I couldn't help recoiling from her.

"Elizabeth" my grandmother stopped suddenly. Her eyes narrowed and she took a step towards the Queen. The Queen stepped backwards from her. "Release her"

The Queen lifted her fingers. I stepped backwards rubbing my arm.

"Iris is a Guardian. She will be in charge of the Guard" My grandmother said in a low threatening voice. "She cannot be removed. I don't care about your tantrum or that of your husband..son...whomever. Iris is a Guardian"
