Taron was getting dressed in my room. There was a knock on my door. Taron and I looked at each other. I closed the bathroom door and kicked some of the mess under my bed.
"We are engaged, why does it matter?" Taron teased me. I smacked his arm and opened the door. There were two women with luggage. I recognized them as my grandmother's stylists.
"What is that for?" I pointed as they pulled out make up and other things.
"Things you'll need" a tall woman muttered. I had seen them once and a while coming and out of the house but I hadn't spoken to them. She grabbed my arm pulling me down.
"Where is the dress?" the tall one with platinum blonde hair asked. I pointed at the box on my dresser. She pulled it out looking it over.
"This is beautiful" she admired. The two stylists looked at each other and smiled. "You are going to look beautiful my dear"
I kept a straight face as they pulled their equipment out. Taron grimaced and without a word, he left.
It was the most relaxing thing I had ever done. I was given a facial which I had ever done before. They took their time since it was still early. They barely spoke it was like they were reading each other's mind. It wouldn't surprise me if they were immortal.
"Okay" they smiled at each other. I got up from the chair. I had barely moved at all. I stretched my back trying to get rid of the tight feeling in my back.
"You will look darling" they said as they packed up their things. I waited until they left so I could change into my dress. I pulled it out and I stared at it. It was a gorgeous flowy silver dress.
I put it on. It fit perfectly. I stared at myself in the mirror. My hair was half up in an elegant fashion. The make up around my eyes made it clash magnificently with the silver dress.
My eyes looked darker against the black make-up. I turned around looking at my back. It was fairly see through. The rhinestones covered a good part of my backside. The dress also had a trail which I absolutely loved. I pulled out some heels but it wouldn't matter since they wouldn't be seen.
I looked at the clock, it was past 7:30 p.m. I grabbed my coat and a small clutch purse. I went down towards the main entrance. I could see people leaving for the party. The school wasn't as busy as it should be. The large front doors were open. I could see people waiting for their limos. I put on my coat and I walked down the large stairs. Byron was waiting for me.
He was dressed in traditional dark jacket and pants. He had some robes around his shoulders. A purple and red cord were also on his shoulder. At his neck holding onto the robe was a brooch.
"Is Ares with you?" he asked me with looking at me. He held out his arm, and I took it.
"He had to come along" I muttered as he held the door open for me. I slipped inside. He slipped in the other side.
"It is tradition" Byron smiled at me. "A guardian on the day of his or her ceremony gets gifts" he pulled out a little box. He held it out to me.
Inside was a metal pendant. I held it in my hand and I couldn't help smiling. It was a small silver phoenix.
"Thank you" I turned it over. There was a little pin so it could hook onto something. He turned his head and looked out the window.
We didn't say anything the entire trip. I didn't know what to tell him. Congratulate him. No. I couldn't.
The limo stopped and I turned to the window with a smile. Byron got out to open the door for me. I could see Ezra and Thomas going in with their dates. My door opened and Byron held out his hand. I took it taking a deep breath.
"Here we go" I bit my lip back. I felt strange and clammy. I was a nervous wreck was we walked inside the building. I grasped Byron's hand tightly in spite of myself.
"Are we ready?" Dr. Nan asked us as soon as we were inside. I nodded without saying anything. "So remember walk in slowly pause at top of the stairs and walk down slowly....linger the moment because as far as I have been told it is the best feeling in the world" He smiled at us with a bright grin.
"Your coats" my grandmother assistant held out her hand. I shrugged out of mine and handed it to her.
"You look nice" Byron complimented. I looked down at the dress and shrugged.
I met his eyes and he slowly smiled at me. It was that smile that he gave me once and a while. I hadn't seen it in so long. He held out his arm and I nervously took it. "My mother came to one of these with my father" I told him.
"And they ended up together?" Byron smirked. His eyes were laughing at me.
"I doubt you and I will end up together" I joked leaning on his arm.
"Funny you should say that" he laughed at me. My cheeks turned red and I cleared my throat.
"I didn't mean it like that" I muttered releasing my hold on him.
"I'm joking" he put his hand around my waist.
"Alright let's arrange ourselves" My grandmother's assistant called, returning. Even though we had been born at the same time, I was the youngest one by a few hours. I grabbed Byron's arm again and stepped behind Thomas.
Dr. Nan walked over to Ezra and attached a hilt at his waist.
"Normally you get to see your blades before the ceremony but we are in a time crunch. You can see them afterwards." Dr. Nan told each of us. He approached me and attached mine carefully.
