ZORGE
I tried not to think about Arika while she tried to deal with Ivret. The thought of her being with him irked me, but I could not do much about it. She was to be shared among the three of us. I couldn't let my jealousy upset the stability of each of our relationships.
I knew that Ivret flipped out because of me, and I might have been a bit too harsh on him, but I lost my mind as soon as he said that Mavie took him back into her service. We were trying to leave this place as soon as possible, but this set us ten steps back.
Not to mention, my brother and I still had to deal with the issue of the Commission. He'd been away for a while. I couldn't help but wonder if he found something to help us out. This was another thing that had been mentally bothering me.
I didn't want to go back to the frontline ever again. That place was hell. I didn't have to face a whole army of Krakens like Radrox, but I'd still been in bad enough situations to fuck me over for the rest of my life. I didn't want to be in those situations again. That would be death for me because it meant I'd never get to see Arika again. The thought in itself was terrifying.
I couldn't imagine spending my life without Arika anymore, especially now that we mated. I couldn't forget the way she took my knot and clenched around me, draining my seed. The mere memory of our union made my knot swell with more seed for her. I wanted to be with her again. I forgot all my worries while being with her.
This made me crave her even more. I wanted her touch yesterday. Knowing she was with Ivret made me want to barge into his room and steal her from under his nose, but that would cause more trouble than necessary.
I decided to go out and find other ways to get us out of the Commission to distract myself. I was afraid that if I spent more time in the wing, I'd seek out Arika, and Ivret would be pissed even more. I'd already pissed him enough for today. I was sure he was raging even before I cursed him out. I, too, would be on the verge of losing my mind if the Empress ordered me to serve under her again.
After mating with Arika, I couldn't help but wonder how I kept myself from claiming her right after she woke up for the first time in the Gallow Castle. If I were as obsessed with her as I was right now, she would've never escaped because I'd always kept her stuck on my knot. I groaned as my knot started throbbing for her again. This was getting bad. I was now an obsessed male.
This lust was nothing but a sickness— a fever which could only be cured by mating with Arika as often as possible... but she was with Ivret now. This was torturous, but I couldn't do anything except ensure that she remained stuck in my knot for longer the next time we were together. That would be the only way to satisfy my hunger.
I went out to meet some of the warriors from my old unit to see if they could help me and my brother out of the Commission. However, it ended up being ultimately fruitless. They might've been able to help if the Empress didn't directly sign the Commission. This was what was making everything terrible. Still, I exercised all my options until they were exhausted.
I was hopeless and numb by the time I returned to our wing early in the morning. I was tired— mentally, emotionally and physically. I hoped to find Arika and curl up with her for a while to clear my mind. Her presence was enough to rid my mind of the dark thoughts.
However, when I returned, I was stunned to find two Cardinal Guards waiting outside our wing. My dragon stirred inside me while anxiety flooded me.
Why were they here so early?
One of the guards recognised me as the resident of the wing and ordered me to get Ivret.
This wasn't good.
I decided not to waste a second and get him. I tried to ignore the pang of jealousy when I saw Arika curled up in his bed, but it relieved me when I read Arika's thoughts and realised they hadn't mated yet.
Good.
Ivret looked pissed to see me, but he paled when I told him about the guards. I tried to hold Arika back from seeing the guards, but she ignored me and rushed after Ivret. I sensed her fear and anxiousness for seemingly avoiding me, but it still flamed my jealousy.
I went after the two to see the guards because I was curious and anxious about why they were here so early and why there were two of them. I wish I could read their thoughts or emotions, but I couldn't.
I was surprised by Radrox as well. He seemed to have just returned, filling me with some hope. Maybe he managed to find something? However, one look on his face told me all I needed to know. This further soured my mood. Why everything seemed to be turning against us all of a sudden?
"What is it?" Ivret asked the guards anxiously. The guards' expressions remained distant. Their eyes looked dead. Sometimes, they appeared to be walking corpses, operating on the Empress' commands.
"Ivret va'rin Kalaz, you've been summoned by Her Majesty for tomorrow's Official Dinner at the Cardinal Hall. You shall also accompany Arika, the human pet, to the Court," One of the Guards read out the invite for us all. It wasn't an invite but a firm order, and the presence of the guards was an answer enough as to what would happen if Ivret failed to obey the invite.
The Guards left immediately after reading the invite, not waiting for a response from Ivret. This was another indication.
"She's not going to the Court," Radrox growled. I agreed with him on this, but there wasn't a choice. It'd be dangerous to expose Arika to the Court directly. I was sure there were rumours of Ivret returning with a human pet floating around. Arika's presence there would only confirm those rumours, and Arika would be subject to the scheming of the Court members. This was the very thing we'd been trying to avoid since the first day, but... I clenched my jaw.
"You say as if I have a choice," Ivret hissed, clutching his head.
"It's just a dinner. I think we can manage—"
"You don't know what you're talking about," Ivret hissed. "Fuck it. I need to see to it," He muttered before storming away, leaving Arika with Radrox and me.
"What's gotten to him lately?" Airka asked while I took a step closer to her, aching to touch her and master her body the way I did yesterday.
"Did you mate with him too?" I asked. I had to ask even though I knew the answer. I just wanted to know what she'd say to me.
"What do you mean by too?" Radrox growled.
