Jill's POV

"Why isn't your sister taking you to school?" My dad asks.

I lift up my penny board and take a bite out of my banana. "Because Hayes and I are riding to school."

"Oh, no you aren't." My dad says, coming closer to me.

"Oh shit." I say, muttering.

I throw my banana in the trash and run around the counter as my dad is practically chasing me. I grab my backpack.

"Bye, Rachel!" I yell as I run out of the house with my dad on my tail.

I run out and see Hayes waiting out by his house.

"HAYES, LET'S GO!" I say, yelling in the distance.

"No, Jill!" My dad says, agitated.

Hayes sees my dad behind me and goes wide eyed and gets on his board. I reach him and grab his hand as we speed down the street. I look to see my dad and he stopped and looked pissed. I chuckle.

"Care to explain?" Hayes says, lifting up an eyebrow.

I look at his outfit for a second. Khakis and a black polo shirt. Of course. I had light washed jeans and a flower cardigan on.

"Let's just say my dad isn't a big fan of you.." I say, chuckling.

"So he wants his precious daughter to stay away from a bad boy like me?" He asks.

I nod. "But I don't give a shit what my dad thinks or says."

He stops and let's go of my hand. "I don't want you to go against your dad, Jill."

"I'm not going against anybody, Hayes. My dad just heard some bad stuff about you." I say, shrugging my shoulders and continuing to skate.

He grabs my arm.

"H-Hayes, you are hurting me." I say.

He looks down to see his hand squeezing my arm and he lets go instantly.

"I'm sorry." He says, muttering.

I nod and rub my arm.

"Look, I do a lot of bad stuff. I'm gonna admit that. But, I'm trying to change." Hayes says.

"Then, change! I don't really know what bad stuff you do and I don't wanna know!" I say.

"I'm gonna change or at least try." He says.

We get on our penny boards as we continue to talk.

"You know Hayes, we are gonna be hanging out a lot. At least that's what I think. I am your tutor and neighbor." I say.

"And my friend." He says.

"Friend?" I say.

"Yeah? We are friends." He says, smiling.

"Oh, right. Friends." I say, fake smiling.

We pull up at the school and head to our lockers. Once Hayes is done, he comes over to mine. I shut my locker and turn, only to be stopped by Rebecca.

"Hey, Hayes." Rebecca says, flipping her fake hair. She ignores my presence and I roll my eyes. She can't be serious.

"Hey, Rebecca." Hayes says, giving her a genuine smile.

He was practically drooling. And to think I like him.

"So Hayes, what are you doing after school today?" Rebecca asks.
