*Jessamine's pov*

I opened my eyes and I was in a white space around me. There was nothing there, but yet it was peaceful at the same time.

"Ah, Jessamine. We have been waiting for you," a male voice said and I turned around.

"Where am I?" I asked him. He gave me a soft smile and my nerves relaxed.

"You are in a place between life and death."

"So I'm not dead?"

"No. Not yet anyways. And you my dear, have a choice." He said, but his eyes made it seem like the choices weren't even worth it.

"What are the choices?" I asked him slowly.

"You can pick to give up now, and die. Or you can go back for a few days. You will get to say goodbye to those that you love, but you will only be there for 2 days. You don't have a lot of time to choose."

"Why only 2 days? Why can't I choose to go back and live the rest of my life?" I asked. I was angry. I couldn't even get to live my life before it even began.

"Well you see my dear, everyone has a set time today. Your lifespan was made shorter for some reason. And now you're reaching the end. There is no way to stop it, and I find that sad because you are so young. But there is nothing I can do about it. I am just a spirit who is stuck here for the rest of eternity." He sighed.

"Why?"

"You're asking too many questions. Now choose what you want to do." He said and he looked annoyed.

I thought for a few moments.

"If I go back now, am I going to open my eyes to being strangled?" I asked.

"No. Creighton's father ran off, the cops are already there and an EMT is trying to get your pulse going again."

I closed my eyes. I didn't like either of these choices, but I knew which one I had to make.

*Creighton's pov*

Graduation was finally over. I was beaming because I finally graduated. I didn't let the bullies stop me from receiving my diploma, and I couldn't be happier.

"Creighton!" My mom called out. I turned to look in her direction, but her face wasn't expressing happiness. It was expressing worry and sadness.

I ran through the sea of people to my mom. She looked like she was trying to hold back tears.

"Creighton, I don't want to ruin your special day, but," she choked on the last word and couldn't finish.

"Mom? What's wrong?" I asked her.

"It's Jessamine. She's in critical condition and in the hospital." She told me and I felt my world crashing down.

"What?!" I yelled and started freaking out.

"Come on, I'm going to take you there." My mom grabbed my arm and we both quickly ran to the car.

I didn't care about anything but Jessamine. She was my world. I love her and I can't be without her.

"Drive," I yelled at my mom. I didn't say it rudely, but I was definitely feeling rushed to go and see her.

"I'm hurrying!" My mom yelled back and started the car and then drove off to the hospital.

What if she isn't going to be okay? How am I going to be able to go on without her? No, she's going to be fine. She will be fine.

What had happened? Why was she in the hospital?

"Mom did they tell you what happened?" I asked and she nodded but didn't speak. She didn't look at me or look like she was going to tell me what happened.

"Mom?" I asked again.

"It was your father. He strangled her, beat her, and she was dead for a few minutes." She told me and my heart broke to pieces. I could feel it shatter.

Anger coursed through me. I wanted to go and hunt that asshole down.

"Creighton are you okay?" She asked me and I shook my head. Hurting me was one thing. But hurting my girlfriend? Oh hell no.

"I want to kill him." I growled. He hurt my girlfriend. The love of my life and he tried to kill her. He wasn't going to get away with this. If the police didn't find him I would. I don't care that I am not the strongest out there. I will find him and I will kill him.

"You can't. I'm not having my son go to jail because of that asshole." She said with authority in her voice. I nodded my head slowly.

"Why were you with him mom? Was he always like that?"

"No. He used to be so sweet and kind, but he changed. He started drinking and he hasn't been the same since. The man that I loved died when he took that sip of alcohol." The tone of her voice was sad.

"Let's just focus on Jessamine, okay?" My mom asked and her hands were gripping the wheel.

"I'm sorry." I said. I felt bad that I made her upset.

"Aw honey, it's not your fault. No need to apologize okay?"

I nodded my head and started tracing my fingers on the door. I was anxious to get to the hospital. I needed to see her. I had to.

When we finally got there I jumped out of the car, but I was polite and waited for my mother. We both walked quickly into the hospital.

My mom told the receptionist who we were trying to see and she gave us the room number. That's when I ran without my mother. I sprinted to her room, needing to see the love of my life.

I knocked on the door when I reached it, just in case, and then opened the door and the image before me broke my heart. I couldn't understand what I was looking at. Jessamine had bruises all over her neck and so many machines hooked up to her.

Tears started to form in my eyes and my shattered heart turned to dust. She looked like she was on the brink of death.

"Jessamine," I breathed and she opened her eyes to look at me. She gave me a small smile and I watched her eyes light up.

"Creighton," she whispered.

"No, baby, don't talk. Your throat must be killing you," I said and walked over to her. I sat in the chair that was next to her and looked at my girl.

She nodded her head and slowly reached for a whiteboard and marker that was on the desk next to her.

She started to write on it and I held her other hand in both of mine.

I missed you so much.

I smiled at her and leaned over to kiss her forehead.

"I missed you too baby girl. You're my world and I don't know what I'd do without you."

And at that Jessamine started crying.
