Jordan-13
With Damon's ominous return, Hank was determined not to take any chances with his daughter's safety. He understood the crafty nature of Damon and suspected he was already hatching some devious plan. To safeguard Jordan, Hank assigned Kim and Sean to sit vigil at her school throughout the day. Their mission was clear: once classes dismissed, they were to escort her straight back to the district, with no deviations and no opportunities for Damon to intervene. Hank was resolute in his commitment to keeping Damon at bay, fully aware that the cunning man was well aware of Hank's protective watch.
As they parked outside the school, Kim and Sean remained alert, their eyes scanning the surroundings for anything out of the ordinary. The car felt cramped and stifled, a stark contrast to the vibrant activity buzzing just beyond the windows. Kim stole a sideways glance at Sean and noticed the furrow of frustration etched on his brow; they had been assigned yet another babysitting detail. While the sun cast long shadows across the pavement, her partner's impatience was palpable, a silent testament to the toll this routine had begun to take on both of them.
"Sean, please don't start this again," Kim said, her voice tinged with annoyance as she crossed her arms. The tension between them was building.
"Were cops, Kim, not babysitters," Sean replied, his frustration evident in the sharpness of his tone. He ran a hand through his hair as he continued. "Voight has a whole team at his disposal; any one of them could take on the watch. Yet here we are once more. I signed up to serve and protect, not to play nanny or carry that burden." His face darkened as he recalled past mistakes. "Especially after the last time."
"You can't keep blaming yourself for what happened with Yates; she was manipulated," Kim interjected, her brow furrowed with concern.
"She slipped away right under our noses, and the fallout was brutal. We took the heat for it, and I'm not willing to let that happen again," he replied, the anger simmering just beneath the surface.
"Jordan's a good kid; don't take such a hard line," she urged, trying to soften his resolve.
"I can't help it!" he shot back, his voice rising. "I'm not accustomed to dealing with kids, and now I feel this weight on my shoulders, this unwarranted responsibility for keeping Jordan safe." His gaze hardened, a mix of worry and determination clouding his expression.
"It takes some getting used to watching kids, especially Jordan."
"What makes it worse is not only do we have Voight to deal with, but Platt too."
Kim chuckled. "That we do."
From his hidden vantage point, Damon observed intently. The shadows wrapped around him like a cloak, providing the ideal cover. He was acutely aware that Hank wasn't a fool; the man had a keen instinct for protection. With a calm demeanor, Damon noted the subtle movements of Hank's associates, vigilant and ready, always circling around his daughter like sentinels guarding a precious jewel.
As Damon focused, a sense of unease settled in his chest. He recognized that any attempt to manipulate the situation would be futile; they were astute and would surely report back to Hank without hesitation. For now, he resolved to remain in the depths of the shadows, quietly gathering information like a spider weaving an intricate web, hoping to capitalize on the threads of opportunity that might yet reveal themselves.
After what felt like an eternity, the final bell of the school day rang, signaling a sweet release for Jordan. As she stepped out into the warm afternoon light, Damon stood waiting, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. Glancing at her, he couldn't help but notice the subtle resemblance she bore to her father—an echo of familiar features that danced in the light—but there was something uniquely hers that set her apart, a spark of individuality that made her presence truly captivating.
