It’s a new day — a new beginning for Mahika. She gets ready for her first day at work. Picking up her folders and her handbag, she walks out of her room. As she steps onto the stairs, her mother sends a glare her way. “No jumping on the stairs, Mahika,” she warns her, earning a giggle from her.
She jumps one step, but then casually climbs down the stairs. Her mother slaps her cheek playfully, “Mahi beta, ab toh badi ho jaa, aaj tera office ka pehla din hai,” she says.

“Toh vo toh office ke liye hai na, Mumma! Ghar mein toh I’m still the little girl. Aur as always, Dadda mujhe drop karenge office,” she declares as soon as she spots her dad emerging from his room.
Ronit smiles and nods softly, “Of course, Princess. Every first thing related to you is special for me,” he says, his heart full at the moment.

“Yay, chaliye, ab hum naashta karenge. I am sure, aaj Mumma ne kuch special banaya hai, hai na?” she turns to her mother, who’s now setting the dishes on the table.
As Mahika looks on, she finds vegetable upma, cutlets, and coffee on the table — all her favourites. She chuckles and begins to eat, as if she’s been hungry since yesterday.
“It’s yummy…” she declares, taking the first bite of the cutlet.
What follows are brief instructions from her father, since it’s her first job. As Mahika looks at her dad, she knows he’s worried for her. She holds his hands, trying to comfort him.
“Papa, you trust me, right?” she asks, her gaze quizzical.
“Yes, Princess. Why do you ask?” he asks.
