The days begin to pass after Shruti and Siddharth’s engagement. Owing to their respective jobs, they can’t meet frequently. But whenever they do, they meet with the same zest, love, and care. It’s been a month since the engagement and the dinner date they had enjoyed, with Gautam joining them.

Mahika often ponders over recent events — her bond with Gautam has changed. He has always been kind to her, his father has been supportive of her decisions, and since the day of the engagement, something has shifted between them. She’s still lost in her thoughts when a warm touch pulls her back to the present. Looking up, she finds Anoop smiling at her. That’s when she realizes she’s in the small office kitchenette, the gentle hum of the coffee machine grounding her.

“Mahika beta, aap kis soch mein hain?” Anoop asks tenderly.

She smiles, though it doesn’t quite reach her eyes. “Nothing much, Sir. Just got a ping from my best friend, toh hamara ek purana conversation yaad aa gaya,” she says, making up a story — because it’s not just a random conversation she’s reminiscing about; it’s one with Gautam.

Anoop smiles. “Mahika, mujhe tumhe yeh batana toh nahi chahiye, I mean, main jaanta hoon tumhe in sab baaton ki samajh hai. Par beta, main yeh kehna chahta hoon ki agar dil mein koi baat ho na, toh vo keh deni chahiye. Phir chahe wo tumhare parents ho, tumhare dost ya phir tumhare colleagues— bas kehna aana chahiye. Isse tum bure nahi banoge, par logon ko tumhari limits pata chal jayegi,” he says, passing on a piece of his wisdom to her.

Mahika smiles. “Aur agar koi baat kahi na jaa sake toh?” she asks, making Anoop pause mid-step.

He gazes at her. “What’s stopping you?” he asks.
