They are truly happy. It is a fine day, and they are in the showroom of Manyavar Mohe, selecting their wedding dresses. They decide to wear matching outfits, and the colours they choose are pink or off-white. Siddharth is choosing a lehenga for Shruti, while she is busy picking out a sherwani for him. At last, they choose pink-coloured outfits, and Siddharth makes the payment for them. With smiles etched on their faces, they head out of the showroom and walk into the Tanishq showroom — Siddharth insists Shruti choose a diamond ring. Though she tries to refuse, she gives in to his insistence. Usually, this is the shopping that parents do, but right now, Shruti and Siddharth are making these choices themselves.

Shruti looks at some rings and finally chooses one where the design nearly forms an ‘S,’ which is also their initial. She looks at Siddharth for approval, and with a single nod, he approves it. As they shift to look at a ring for him, they find a plain gold ring with a diamond stud in the middle. Siddharth’s eyes twinkle with joy as he glances at it, and he even tries it on. Shruti turns toward him, “Let’s book this, Sid, it will look good on you,” she says, and he is stunned.

“How do you even know I liked this?” he asks.

Shruti smiles, “I could see the expressions on your face, and I knew you’d love this. Let’s make the payment,” she says, her lips twitching into a small smile.

As they step out of the shop, Shruti sighs, “Sid, I am tired. Can we go for a quick coffee?” she asks.

He taps her cheek. “Sure, my love, here’s Cafe Latte nearby. Wahin chalte hain,” he says.

Shruti agrees and follows him into the nearby café. As they sit at a corner table, Siddharth orders two coffees and a grilled sandwich between them. Then he faces her; there is a hint of a smile on her lips, and despite knowing the reason, he questions her.

“Kya hua, bahut khush lag rahi ho? Jo bhi humne kharida, tumhe pasand toh aaya na?” he asks.

Shruti smiles, her smile reaching her eyes, “Yes, Sid! Maine nahi socha tha ki yeh sab shopping hum khud karenge

Shruti smiles, her smile reaching her eyes, “Yes, Sid! Maine nahi socha tha ki yeh sab shopping hum khud karenge. But, it was fun,” she says, reaching out to hold his hands.

“Maa ne kaha tha. Maine socha iss bahane hum dono ko bhi ek sath waqt bitane ko milega,” Siddharth adds.

“I know! Ma ka phone aaya tha. Bas 2 din, Sid! 2 din baad humari sagai hain.” She chuckles, clearly happy about their union.

She looks at Siddharth, boring her eyes into his, “Siddharth, tumhe pata hai, maine socha hi nahi tha ki hum shaadi tak bhi pahuch payenge

She looks at Siddharth, boring her eyes into his, “Siddharth, tumhe pata hai, maine socha hi nahi tha ki hum shaadi tak bhi pahuch payenge. Jab hum pehli baar mile they tab se hi tum mujhe pasand they, lekin main tumhari dosti khona nahi chahti thi. Aur isliye kabhi bola hi nahi….aur phir…” she says, but pauses mid-sentence.

Siddharth gazes at her, letting her continue, “Aur kya? Kya soch rahi thi?” he asks.

Shruti looks away for a moment, but then looks back at him, this time into his eyes, “Aur mujhe laga ki tum Mahi ko pasand karte ho. Kyunki tum dono childhood friends ho, toh mujhe laga maybe tum dono ka koi rishta ho,” she replies hesitantly.

Siddharth chuckles, “Shru! Tumne pehle hi overthinking karli. Mahi meri best friend hai, of course, main usey pasand bhi karta hooon, and I love her too, par vaise nahi! Meri feelings uske liye alag hain aur tumhare liye alag,” he explains, his tone laced with love.

“Jaanti hoon, Sid! Mujhe baad mein woh baat samajh aai, kyunki chahe dost ho ya family, hum sabse pyar karte hain, bas tareeke alag hote hain. Aur phir Sid, maine uss baat ko dimag se hataya lekin phir mujhe laga agar tum mujhe pasand nahi karte hoge toh? Aur main tumhari dosti khona nahi chahti thi,” she shares.

Siddharth smiles, “Mujhe bhi wahi darr tha, Shru! Jab tum mere aur Mahi ke sath rehne lagi tab maine tumko jaana. Mujhe tum sabse alag lagi. Jaise Mahi is a part of my life, tum bhi meri zindagi ka hissa ban gai. Mahi se main ladta hun, tumse nahi, vo daant-ti hai mujhe, rokti hain, aur tum mujhe sahi raaste pe le aati ho, ye difference hai!! Aur mujhe dono chahiye meri life mein,” he says, his tone gentle.

“Aur dono hi rahenge tumhari life mein, Sid! Mahika is a part of me too, you know! I am excited to show her the dress and rings,” Shruti chuckles softly.

Siddharth smiles, “She is working today. Par kal wo chhutti pe hain, aur hamari sagai tak chhutti pe hain,” he informs.

“Wow! Main kal hi usko bulaati hoon, and you know what, she’ll come to me pehle,” she teases him.

Meanwhile, their coffees and sandwiches are served, and they enjoy their little meal, all while planning for their engagement.

It is a surreal feeling!

And it is all another step toward their sacred union.

To be Continued.
