- Here We Woe Again -
2x1Vada isn't expecting to do much today. Just continue her loathing and find some good music to listen to while her inner thoughts scream.
That is, until she returns to her dorm to see Enid and Wednesday staring at a painting of a crow. Exactly the same they had seen yesterday. Her brows furrow. "What the hell is that?"
Enid picks up a folded card and hands it over. "From Xavier."
She takes it and begins reading aloud. "I tried texting but I assume Wednesday lost her phone and Vada is avoiding me—nothing new there. Consider this painting my goodbye gift. The image suddenly flashed in my head. Don't ask me how I know or what it means, but it's connected to you two, I'm sure. Who's Nevermore's saviors without a mystery to solve, right? - Xavier."
Enid looks at the painting again, inspecting it beside Wednesday. "A creepy crow on a headstone. What's it mean?"
"No idea." Wednesday replies calmly and looks at Vada. It's clear she wants to keep Enid away from the dangers of the crows. She has grown quite protective.
Vada looks at her before staying silent, her dark eyes moving back to the painting and taking in the detail. There was no denying Xavier's skill.
"Thing and I are headed to the Founder's Pyre. You two joining?" Enid asks softly, looking at the two.
"Probably not. I hate crowds." Vada says and shrugs her shoulders before feeling Wednesday move past her to her typewriter, seeming distracted by something.
The girl leans forward and rips a paper from the holder. "Have you been using my typewriter without asking?" She asks Thing, who shakes his wrist in response.
"What is this?" Vada walks over and looks at the paper. Only one thing is typed, but it's clearly meant for Wednesday. "Read any good books lately?" She reads, looking at her. "Did you?"
Wednesday rolls her eyes before opening her drawer and her eyes widen. Her novel is gone. In its place was one paper. She picks it up. "Higher, higher, higher, I am demon of the fire and each blazing roof is my pyre." She reads.
"I feel like we're trapped in a Dr Seuss book." Vada complains boredly.
"My stalker's going to burn my manuscript at the founder's pyre.." Wednesday put the pieces together rather quickly.
"That's not your only copy, right?" Enid asks before blinking when she doesn't get a response. "Seriously? Copy machines aren't even 21st century technology."
"Wait-did you say stalker? You have one too?" Vada asks, hurrying after them. "Thank grandpa, because I was feeling a little singled out!"
The music blares and a stick bird is in the middle of the yard. Everyone is gathered around and sipping juice or talking. A pretty nice turn out despite how boring it seems.
Wednesday looks around. "The stalker is here. Be on the lookout for anyone watching us." She tells Enid before making her way to the pyre.
Vada follows and watches Wednesday read a note from her pocket. "Where is this book supposed to be?" She asks.
"Under the pyre.." The Latina girl pulls some of the sticks from the base and tosses them to the side, preparing to crawl under.
