- If These Woes Could Talk -
2x4

Forcing Lucifer to visit a boarding school on earth in the middle of reaping season is about as hard as pulling teeth out of a stubborn toddler's mouth.

Vada hasn't stopped using her telepathy powers to bug him, forcing demands for a physical visit every few seconds until finally, the man appears in front of her in the quad. She glares immediately. "My mother is alive?"

Lucifer's usual smirk dies instantly and he stands straighter. "What?"

"Don't bullshit me, father. My mother is alive and you've been lying to my face for 16 years!" She snaps and steps closer, eyes red. "Where is she?"

"Darling, calm yourself before you blow a demonic hemorrhage." He puts his hands up.

"No! Why haven't you told me my mother is alive? All this time, all the times I've needed a mother—a woman in my life and you've told me she's dead! I want to know why!" She yells.

He hesitates and rubs his chin. "Vada, it's not as simple as you make it seem. She's alive, but even I can't find her. She's gone missing. Been missing since the third day of your life. I've written, I've called, I've tried to reach out in my ties to the demonic entities and nothing. I know you.. and I know how restless you get when a question goes unanswered. Do you think I wanted to lie to you? No. But I knew you would've spent your whole life trying to track down your mother and seal the same fate at her and I cannot lose you!" He snaps.

Vada shakes her head. "She's missing! She can be found, if you would just get off your ass and do something for once!"

"I WILL NOT HAVE YOU STAND THERE AND RIDICULE ME FOR KEEPING YOU SAFE!" He screams, the statues around them shaking as passing students run. His eyes are dark red and glowing, his wings on display and his true face showing.

Vada takes a step back, having only seen him this upset a few times. She blinks and looks down, feeling him revert to his usual form and force himself to calm as well. "I just... I'm upset."

"I understand that. But you have to know, it was for your own good. With your mother, well... I'm not sure what happened but I know if even I, Lucifer himself, cannot contact her, foul play is at large and it is someone powerful." He watches her. "I need you to promise me you won't go digging."

Her brows furrow. "Dad-"

"Promise me, Vada. You are half demon and half angel, you are more than your mother and if they've kept her for this long, imagine what they'd do to you. I will not allow it."

She looks up at him, dark eyes meeting darker. Her heart pounds at the pleading expression on her father's face. She hasn't seen it.. ever. Her heart breaks. "I-I promise.."

"Good.." he takes a slow breath and looks over as Wednesday comes around the corner with Agnes. He looks to Vada before disappearing, his eyes holding words he won't say aloud.

"Are you alright?" Wednesday asks once he's gone, her eyes taking in Vada's face extremely closely. She's hyper observant and she seems to know everything about Enid and Vada's tells.

"Was that your father?" Agnes asks, excitement in her tone. "Can I meet him?"

"I'm fine." Vada snaps and glares at Agnes, ignoring her questions. "Did you have your rat dig around about Stonehurst?"

"Ouch." Agnes sighs and walks further down the steps with the girls. "Stonehurst used to be the Normie head doctor at Willow Hill. Before that, he taught science at Nevermore."

Wednesday focuses back on the case, despite sending Vada a lingering look. "When he's not signing questionable death certificates, where is the good doctor these days?"
