(Y/N) POV:
Before I knew it, the dim morning sunlight glistened through my dorm room window and warmed my face, stirring me awake. There was minimal furniture in my dorm, but the UA staff did get me a digital clock for me that I had on my nightstand. Most people use their phones nowadays, but I don't have one yet.
The time was 6:15am. Quite early, but I was used to getting up at the crack of dawn. Especially during my time at UA where I was training anytime the teachers were free. But today was Saturday, the weekend, and everyone was on break.
Rolling away from my digital clock, I lifted the blanket and shivered from the cold air that filled my dorm room. I could turn on the heater for my room, but I didn't really care enough to take myself out of the warming embrace of my thick blanket. Besides, it was hard to adjust to the idea that I had a heater in the first place.
I snuggled into my blanket and closed my eyes, trying to go back to sleep. But no matter how hard I squeezed my eyes shut, I couldn't drift myself to the restful land of my dreams. It's probably because of all the years I spent out on the streets of Japan. I'd taught myself to sleep only when necessary, and left the rest of my time to scavenge for food and to beg for money, always on the move to avoid getting robbed by a gang.
After a few more minutes of resting, I begrudgingly rolled out of my bed and changed out of the plain blue pyjamas that UA had provided for me, and into a white shirt and black track pants, also provided by the school. Most of my wardrobe had been supplied by UA, along with any other provisions I needed to live life comfortably.
It was 6:30am now. The sun was now fully over the horizon, but only barely. With the sun watching over me like it always had, I made my way to the common area, slowly dragging my feet across the stairs and letting myself linger in the groggy drowsiness that I'd never had the privilege to indulge in. I chose to take the stairs over the elevator mainly to keep fit, but also because I had a slight distrust of elevators. How are you supposed to know if they will work or not? They might fail at any moment if not careful, especially with my erratic quirk.
"Oh, good morning (Y/N)," Midoriya says to me with a gentle wave when I reach the common area.
"Morning. You're up early, Midoriya," I say through my tiredness. Midoriya, as well as Iida, are both in the kitchen making some sort of food. But with the sleep in my eyes and dulled senses I struggled to make out what they're cooking.
"Oh, yeah. I never sleep in much," he replies, an awkward and slightly embarrassed smile across his lips.
"I trust you slept well (Y/N)? Iida asks.
"Like a baby. What's for breakfast?"
"Oh, we're making some pancakes," Midoriya explains. "Do you like pancakes?"
"I did when I was a kid. Can't remember the last time I had some though."
"I'm sure they will be enjoyable enough for you. You might need something sweet to raise your spirits," Iida says with a confident smirk. The way he speaks is strange to me. Almost like he's lecturing or talking down to me, but I never feel like he's being condescending. More like a loving father who comes off more strict than mean.
The idea of Iida resembling a father amuses me, especially with the clothes he wears that solidifies the concept in my brain. But I don't let my thoughts distract me, and sit down at the table as Mirdoriya hands me a plate of about 5 pancakes covered with maple syrup and topped with a smidge of whipped cream.
"So, (Y/N), have you thought more about joining our class?" Midoriya asked while I stuff my face with the deliciously fluffy pancakes.
"Honestly, I'm still not sure. I would love to, but I don't know if I have what it takes."
