(Y/N) POV:

Today was Monday, the beginning of the school week, which would usually mean less training and more personal study for me. The teachers at UA had organised a self-motivated learning program for me to improve my literacy and mathematical skills, something they agreed would continue even if I didn't join UA. Usually I would be in my room all day reading and learning by myself. But today was different, very different.

The wind outside had a chilling bite on my face as I ran through the UA estate and up to the main school building. My heart pounded with every step, my blood circling around my body with anticipation. My mind buzzed with excitement. Today was the day I would be able to prove myself, show everyone (and myself) that I was more than what I seemed.

After I had told the principal I'd agree to joining UA, he told me to meet him at the front of UA during lunch on Monday, today. He didn't give me much detail outside that, but I could guess what might happen from our previous conversation. I would have to perform some sort of test. A test that, if I passed, would allow me to join the ranks of UA High and begin my journey to become a pro hero.

I circled the enormous glass structure that was the school piercing the sky, weaving through the neatly trimmed garden and passing some students having their lunch outside. I was basically sprinting at this point, trying my best not to be too late.

Eventually, I made it to the front of UA and saw the principal, who was staring out at the empty road and looking over the city, his small stature not being too intimidating or imposing. He tilted his head over to me, waving gently with his cute paw hand.

"Good afternoon (Y/N). I trust your independent studies are going well?"

"Uh, yes sir!" I stuttered, "I'm struggling a little with fractions, but I think I'll get the hang of it." Rubbing the back of my neck to wipe away the sweat, I try to take a moment to have a breath before starting whatever test the principal has for me.

"It's quite chilly out here. How about we head inside?"

"Inside?" I questioned.

"Well of course. We need to discuss your next steps before your test, and of course what the test might entail. Come, walk with me," he explained, heading inside the glass castle of UA High.

"Wait, are you saying I'm not having my test yet?" I ask, jogging briefly to catch up to him.

"That's correct. I believe that you might need a little training before we test you fully."

"Training? I don't understand, isn't that what joining UA is for? So I can get the training I need?" I say feeling a little dejected.

"Very true, joining UA will mean you will receive lots of training. However, you will be joining that training with students at a much higher skill level than you, meaning you won't be able to keep up with your fellow classmates."

"I guess," I mutter, becoming more and more disappointed as the principal speaks. The excited buzz surging through my body before faded into a depressive hum.

"I don't mean to disappoint you (Y/N), but the reality is your friends have had over a semester of training. It would be unfair to throw you in the deep end and expect you to be at their level."

"But I still don't understand. The idea was so I could improve my quirk as a student, wasn't it? What's the point of me training on my own before I join UA?"

"Ah, I see your confusion. I believe there has been a slight misunderstanding. I'm not talking about training with your quirk," he explained pointing an index finger to the sky. The two of us had entered inside by now and the principal was leading me down the halls of UA.
